Sustainability in Engineering Education – Integration and Transformation Approaches

We invite contributions to a new special issue of the European Journal of Engineering Education on sustainability in engineering education. The focus is on how sustainability and sustainable development can be meaningfully integrated in engineering education, and how even more profound sustainability transformations can be achieved in, as well as through, engineering education. More information here!

Deadline for extended abstracts → 8 January 2023

Following the SEFI conference, we would like to invite you to join our year-round activities in SEFI Special Interest Groups. You will find the entire list and their activities on this page. Some of the groups already shared their post-conference plans.

    European Engineering Educators :

Roland Tormey from EPFL discusses ethics with Neil Cooke and Natalie Wint

For our launch episode, our guest is Dr Roland Tormey, current co-chair of the SEFI Ethics Special Interest Group, and a senior scientist in the College of Humanities at Ecole Polytechnique Federale Lousanne (EPFL) in Switzerland. Roland’s training as a sociologist has provided the basis for his work into both emotion and inter-cultural education, and his pioneering research in teacher training and engineering ethics is changing how we think about engineering education.

Covid-19 imposed distance education measures revealed several structural issues related to digital education and broader weak spots in education systems that extend beyond contextual and sector-related issues. To address such issues, the Commission published the Digital Education Action Plan (2021-2027), which includes the development of a Digital Education Hub that will be created as part of the European Education Area portal.

The new call under the DIGITAL Europe Programme, titled “Specialised education programmes or modules in key capacity areas,” was launched to support the development of bachelor's and master's courses for ICT and digital professionals. The programmes should be jointly designed by universities, research centres and businesses involved in the digital sector.

An info session “Partner for DIGITAL Skills” will take place in October 2022 so as to present the call in detail and to offer the opportunity to future applicants to present their organisations. More information here.
