October 1, 2026 (Cumberland House, SK) // Wild to Wise: An Indigenous Woman’s Guide to Wild Grace, Soft Strength & Your Sacred Self is a new release from Cree author, public speaker, certified life coach, and recording artist Geraldine Carriere. Available October 1st through V13 Press, this book explores the essence of what remains after the things that make up an individual have been challenged in terms of identity, role, and belief system.
Carriere is a Cree woman from the community of Cumberland House, Saskatchewan, who was raised being moved throughout Western Canada through foster care, racism, cultural disconnection and the consequences of colonization. This forms part of the background Carriere draws on for Wild to Wise, but not necessarily the part about turning her hardship into an inspirational story. |

Over ten chapters, Carriere examines inheritance, performance, protection, and even the reconstruction of identity. From pride and presence, productivity and entrepreneurship, she eventually arrives at the body and the aspect of legacy. Cree spirituality, the Medicine Wheel, and the teachings of the matriarchy run through the book along with her lessons from life as a writer, speaker, coach, entrepreneur, and musician.
The crux of Wild to Wise lies in the difference between the self a person has had to create to survive and the self a person could create when survival is no longer an issue. Carriere explores this through the armour she has created and the hard work of figuring out which parts will still help her.
While intended primarily for Indigenous women but open to all those interested in critically examining the experiences which have moulded their lives, Wild to Wise explores personal transformation from an explicitly Indigenous point of view. Instead of offering one model of what people ought to be, Carriere ends up giving the reader something much more challenging to think about: the chance to take control of the story to come.
Through the work of Wild to Wise, Carriere blends the personal and cultural, the spiritual and the tangible, in posing the question: What does it mean to truly know oneself outside the personas that one was given? |
