MINTRES HOSTED FIRST PHOTONICS ACTION DAY

WITH PHOTONICS NL

Early June marked a special occasion for us: the first #PhotonicsActionDay, hosted at Mintres in collaboration with PhotonicsNL. Around 30 professionals from across the photonics and optics landscape joined us for an afternoon of ideas, conversations, and new connections. The programme offered a great mix of perspectives—from Thomas Obeloer’s fascinating talk on working with diamond materials for thermal management applications to company pitches and a session by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency on funding opportunities. We also opened the doors to our own world at Mintres, sharing more about who we are and what we are working towards.

But perhaps the best part was what happened between the presentations: lively conversations, new introductions, and plenty of ideas exchanged over pizza and drinks. And those conversations have already led to something exciting: a postdoc we met through the event will soon join Mintres as a Development Engineer! A great example of how bringing the photonics community together can spark not only new ideas, but also new opportunities.

WE BECAME POLARIS NGF'S FIRST ASSOCIATE PARTNER

Image description

POLARIS pioneers next-generation RF innovations in MRI, radar, and telecommunications. By uniting industry leaders, researchers, and innovators, we turn cutting-edge ideas into real-world impact, strengthening the Netherlands as a global high-tech leader. We are excited to be POLARIS’s first associate partner.

We operate at the beginning of the supply chain as a specialist manufacturer of high-performance materials used as submounts and heat spreaders. Within POLARIS, our expertise in processing CVD diamond and aluminium nitride can support thermal management in increasingly compact and powerful RF systems. This helps connect advanced material capabilities with the assembly and production of reliable RF components and modules.

TECHNOLOGY SPOTLIGHT: RF TERMINATION

We are developing CVD Diamond RF terminations designed to address the challenges of heat management in high-power RF applications. RF terminators dissipate RF energy as heat at the end of the transmission line, whilst preventing unwanted reflections of the signal, making efficient thermal management essential. With its exceptional thermal conductivity, diamond offers an ideal material for rapidly dissipating this heat. Our development aims to combine diamond’s outstanding thermal properties with reliable RF performance, creating compact and robust solutions for demanding applications. This technology could open new possibilities for high-power RF systems where conventional termination materials reach their limits. Stay tuned!
