Last week, SCEDC and North Point Educational Service Center hosted our 7th annual Sandusky County Teacher Bootcamp, continuing a tradition that began in 2019. This year, 8 teachers from 5 school districts across Sandusky County spent three days inside local businesses, exploring the wide range of rewarding careers available right here at home. As part of the Teacher Bootcamp 1.0 experience, educators toured Whirlpool Corporation, Mosser Construction, Motion Controls Robotics, Green Bay Packaging, Community Health Services, and Luckey Farmers, gaining a first-hand look at the jobs and technologies driving our local economy.
At each stop, company hosts emphasized the skills they value most—especially soft skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and reliability—alongside the advanced equipment and technology used in their facilities. Teachers heard from employees and leaders with diverse career journeys: some who worked their way up from entry-level roles with only a high school diploma, and others who earned certificates, college degrees, and even doctorates. Their stories underscored a powerful message for students: there are many different pathways to building a successful, well-paying career in Sandusky County.
This year also featured Teacher Bootcamp 2.0 for educators who had previously completed the 1.0 experience and wanted to deepen their understanding of local career pathways. These returning participants visited BMG and Carbo Forge to gain more insight into in-demand jobs and how to better prepare students for life after high school. We are grateful to North Point ESC for their continued collaboration on this initiative, and we extend a sincere thank you to all of the participating companies for opening their doors to our teachers. By investing in our teachers’ knowledge of local industries year after year, we’re helping them bring real-world opportunities back to their classrooms—and helping grow a strong, skilled workforce for Sandusky County’s future.
