With approximately 900 new jobs announced for the Clyde community over the past year, local leaders are working to ensure workers and their families can live where they work. Housing is a top priority for attracting and retaining this growing workforce and supporting the community’s quality of life. To help meet the need, the City of Clyde secured a $600,000 Welcome Home Ohio grant and launched “Welcome Home Clyde.”
Through this initiative, the City of Clyde and Community Building Partners will build six new, energy‑efficient homes for qualified buyers. Each home includes 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, about 1,300 sq. ft., a front porch, high‑efficiency heating/cooling, major appliances (washer, dryer, dishwasher), a large unfinished basement, and a financial coaching package. Buyer qualifications include a mortgage pre‑approval of $220,000 and a maximum household income at or below 120% of Area Median Income. Program requirements include six months of no‑cost financial literacy counseling, owner‑occupancy for at least three years, and resale within the first 15 years to an income‑eligible buyer. No specific lender is required, and lender referrals are available.
This effort aligns with Sandusky County’s recent housing study, which estimates market demand for up to 1,000 new housing units over the next five years and notes that a shortage of modern housing has hindered workforce attraction.
