| | OER Recommendations Wanted |
|
Open Educational Resources (OER) are educational materials that are available for free and can be used, adapted and/or redistributed without permission (learn more here).
The Digital Learning SIG are looking for OER that showcase good practices in digital learning. Do you have any suggestions that you think would be good to share with the wider Engineering Education community? Perhaps you have an OER that you have developed yourself, or something that you have used or adapted for your own teaching in the past?
Please let us know by completing our OER recommendations form! |

| | Feedback and peer review is a key part of university life for both educators and students. Despite this, there are still gaps in our understanding how to best provide and make use of feedback.
This episode features Ruth Fisher and Divya Naya (University of New South Wales) who discuss their winning paper of the Best Practice Paper Award at SEFI 2025, titled “Using multistage peer reviews to provide feedback and improve student learning.” The paper was co-authored with Javier Videlo Mario and Shamim Aryampa. |

| | A Multidisciplinary Capstone Project - A successful experience for engineering undergraduates |
|
This paper presents a single-case study of an innovative multidisciplinary capstone project implemented at Universidad Católica del Norte (Chile), involving two Engineering Schools. Grounded in constructive alignment and the CDIO (Conceive–Design–Implement–Operate) framework, the project engaged students from three engineering programmes in the design, development, and validation of an automated control system and hydraulic pump test bench for the copper mining industry.

| | S.E.E. Earth | Educating for Sustainability: Beyond Knowledge and Technology |
|
📅 30 April 2026 🕑 11:00–13:00 CEST
How can engineering curricula meaningfully integrate and assess socio‑emotional competences beyond traditional, knowledge‑based approaches? What roles do accreditation, engineering education research, and other key actors play in enabling this shift?
As part of the celebration of International Earth Day, the SEFI Sustainability SIG invites the entire engineering education community to join us as we reimagine what it means to educate the next generation of engineers for a sustainable future.

| | A successful SEFI Ethics Spring Symposium |
|
This year’s Spring Ethics Symposium ran from 20–24 April in Sofia, Bulgaria, and built on ongoing conversations in engineering ethics education that emphasise the human, relational, and context-sensitive aspects of engineering practice and pedagogy. Empathy, care, and attention offer powerful lenses for reimagining how engineers are educated, not just as problem solvers, but as people embedded in complex social, environmental, and ethical worlds.
Many thanks to Diana Bairaktarova (Virginia Tech); SEFI SIG Ethics Co-chairs Diana Martin (UCL) and Mircea Toboșaru (National University of Science and Technology POLITEHNICA Bucharest). |

| | SEFI Joins EU STEM Coalition |
|
This April, SEFI Vice-president Johanna Naukkarinen (LUT) travelled to Turkey to introduce SEFI as one of the newest members of the EU STEM Coalition at their 2026 General Assembly.
By joining this platform, we look forward to creating new synergies and unlocking collaborative opportunities that bridge the gap between policy, industry, and education. Together, we will work toward our shared goal of educating the next generation of responsible and resilient engineers so that they are equipped to tackle global challenges. |

| | CEE Summer Course Series: Learn from a Faculty-Wide Engineering Education Transformation |
|
The UCL Centre for Engineering Education invites engineering and STEM educators, programme leads, curriculum designers, and education leaders to take part in a summer short course series focused on leading educational change.
Drawing on UCL’s Integrated Engineering Programme, a flagship example of faculty‑wide, research‑informed curriculum transformation, the series offers insight into a fully implemented approach to change. Through interactive workshops, hands‑on design activities, peer learning, and networking, participants gain practical tools and strategies to enhance project‑based learning and support curriculum innovation in their own contexts. |
