MARCH NEWSLETTER

With persistent sub-zero temperatures this winter, our students' unwavering commitment to showing up with upbeat attitude was nothing short of heartwarming! As we head into the final month of the term, we look forward to sharing with you our students' wintery projects and hope you will join us on Sunday, March 22nd (2:00-5:00pm) as we celebrate their accomplishments through an End-of-Term Group Art Show! The art show will feature work inspired by Lawren Harris, Vincent Van Gogh, Joan Miro, Piet Mondrian, and Itzhak Tarkay, among other notable 19th and 20th century artists.

SPRING: For those interested in joining a class this spring, we are now taking registration into the upcoming Spring Term Art Classes. Please note that classes are filling up quickly, and as always, once a class reaches capacity, we will add interested students to a wait-list and will email them should space become available. Also available this spring is our Art Smart Lecture Series where Art Historian Sonia Halpern will delve into "Paint and Suffering". This 6-part weekly lecture series will examine artists whose psychological or physical illnesses became a central part of their legacies. Exploring artists like Toulouse-Lautrec, Frida Kahlo, and Maud Lewis among others, Sonia will uncover the way in which each artist dealt with their respective ailments, and how  suffering affected their style of art.

SUMMER: Looking ahead into summer, we would love to see you and your artist join us for one of our Summer Camps for Kids & Youth and Summer Art Classes for Adults! From painting, to drawing, sculpting, animation, high school workshops and adult classes, we have something planned for everyone this summer. With half-day and full-day programs available, these summer programs are perfect for kids, youth and adults wishing to further develop their artistic skills with us.

We invite you to follow the links above and register into the program that best suits your needs, desires, and schedule and we look forward to seeing you at the studio in warmer weather.

Wishing you and your family a colourful month of March!

Tarkay studied art and design in the Bezalel Academy in Jerusalem in the 1950s. His art is heavily influenced by the French Impressionists and Post-Impressionist painters, as he drew inspiration from Matisse's colour sophistication and Toulouse-Lautrec's drawing style. Having achieved recognition as a leading representative of a new generation of figurative artists, Tarkay became a household name among contemporary artists of the 21st century. To this very day, Tarkay's legacy continues to lead and inspire contemporary artists around the world.

With Tarkay's work as a source of inspiration, our high school students created their own "social scene" focusing on figurative drawing and the elegance that can be achieved through the process of stretching, elongating and clothing their models. We're eager to see how their paintings will evolve over the next few weeks as they work towards completing their paintings in time to be showcased at our upcoming Art Show!

Artwork Created at ArtVenture

We wish to share with you a glimpse into the creative process we see each week in class, and cannot wait to feature these and many other completed works of art on March 22nd (between 2:00-5:00pm)! Art shows at the studio are open to the community at large, and we truly hope you can join us as together we celebrate our students' artistry and creativity!
