The operating room in 1970: crowded, observational, and groundbreaking.
Today: safer, smarter, and digitally transformed, yet still driven by surgical curiosity and progress.
Physicians from all over the world have visited the Texas Heart Institute to observe Dr. Denton A. Cooley perform cutting-edge surgical procedures. This photo of a crowded Texas Heart Institute operating room was taken in 1970 as visitors observed Professor Cooley performing a new coronary artery bypass procedure.

This collaboration represents a shared commitment to advancing clinical excellence, research capacity, and scholarly development among medical students. Through this partnership, we aim to create structured pathways for mentorship, education, and publication, supporting the next generation of clinician-scientists with global standards and opportunities.

As part of this partnership, TORG will serve as an academic partner for the 𝐁𝐔𝐀𝐌𝐒 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 & 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 (𝐁𝐔𝐀𝐌𝐒-𝐂𝐒𝐂 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔) and will support student research through mentorship initiatives, joint academic activities, and annual publication fee waivers for outstanding manuscripts, subject to peer review.

We look forward to the impact this collaboration will have in strengthening student-led research, academic visibility, and professional development within the medical community.

February is here. One month already gone.

Image description

Not to create pressure, but to create clarity.
For many professionals and researchers, 2026 came with intentions:
Manuscripts to complete, studies to submit, ideas to finally put into writing.
January has passed.
February is a chance to act, not just plan.
Progress doesn’t always look dramatic. Sometimes it’s drafting the outline, refining the methods, responding to feedback, or finally clicking “submit.”

At The Operating Room Global Journal (TORGJ), we believe good work deserves to be shared, especially research that strengthens surgical systems, centers human factors, and improves patient care.
If publishing was part of your 2026 plan, this is your reminder: the year is moving, and your work matters.
Here’s to a focused, productive February.

Cancer affects millions of lives, and for many, surgery is the difference between life and loss. Yet access to safe, timely cancer surgery remains out of reach for millions worldwide. This day, TORG advocates for equitable access to surgical oncology, early intervention, and dignified care for all.
“𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐞” – every cancer journey is different, yet we are connected in one global fight. Access to cancer surgery should not depend on geography, and where you live should not determine whether you survive cancer. 🎗️
