Oh good, just what Indiana needs — a state holiday honoring Charlie Kirk’s birthday. Rep. Andrew Ireland is apparently so desperate to prove his devotion to Turning Point USA that he’s ready to turn the Indiana General Assembly into Kirk’s personal fan club. Because when Hoosiers think of great American icons who deserve a day off work, they definitely think of a guy who built his brand on hate, racism, and division — all while hiding behind the words “free speech” and banning anyone who dares to challenge him. If this passes, maybe next we can get “Alex Jones Media Literacy Week” or “Rudy Giuliani Ethics Awareness Day.” Until then, Hoosiers can rest easy knowing their tax dollars are hard at work commemorating Charlie Kirk’s special day — the true definition of government waste wrapped in culture-war cosplay. Braun’s Twitter Fumble: From “Tough on Crime” to “Delete Tweet, Repeat” Governor Mike Braun couldn’t delete that tweet fast enough. After rushing to politicize the news that former NFL quarterback and analyst Mark Sanchez had been stabbed in Indianapolis, Braun framed it as yet another example of “soft-on-crime” city leadership — only to learn Sanchez was actually arrested as the aggressor in the incident. Turns out, the only thing bleeding here was Braun’s credibility. |

Dan Dakich’s Keyboard Courage Hits a New Low Dan Dakich just can’t help himself. When faced with news of a stabbing, his instinct isn’t empathy — it’s to spew a racist rant blaming “fatherless African American kids” for violence in downtown Indy. It’s the same tired dog whistle nonsense dressed up as “telling it like it is.” For someone who made a career out of running his mouth, Dakich sure seems determined to prove there’s no bottom to his feed. |

Start of Healthy Indiana Plan work requirement pushed to 2027 Hoosier Republicans just can’t quit trying to slap work requirements on health care, even though courts, common sense, and basic human decency keep getting in their way. The so-called “Healthy Indiana Plan” work mandate has now been punted to 2027—if it even survives that long. |

Be very, very quiet: IU's Elmer Fudd approach to transparency Indiana University has faced unprecedented challenges from the government and internal conflict. But despite changes affecting the lives of tens of thousands of students, faculty and staff, the university continues to make most important decisions in secret and leaders routinely avoid interviews with informed journalists. |

A Data Center Study Data centers have almost no local economic effects, with one possible exception. That's the result of my recent study examining the effects of data centers on Texas employment and incomes. Texas provides an ideal case study because it offers both property tax abatements and sales tax exemptions for data centers, it posts transparent data on tax incentives, and it experienced the data center rush before other states. |

Beau Bayh launches campaign for Indiana secretary of state Beau Bayh is sitting on a camp stool in an empty condo in Indianapolis' Chatham Arch neighborhood. "Gosh," he tells me, "I spent tons of money on furniture, which sucks, but it's coming in pieces, so hopefully by, like, mid-October, I'll be fully moved in." (Paywall) |

Feeling No Shame That lack of self-awareness must also be a characteristic of Trump voters, who evidently view his ongoing clown show and decline with equanimity, and seem perfectly okay with his demonstrable inability to govern, not to mention his destruction of America’s global status…
