Concert for Democracy Recap 🎸

Crowd of people clapping at Concert for Democracy

Thanks to all the volunteers, donors, and attendees who made the Concert for Democracy a rousing success! We had 85 attendees and raised over $2,000 for the party to support candidates and get out the vote in the 2026 elections.

If you couldn't make the event or missed some of the performances, check out the full video of the event on YouTube, courtesy of Documocracy.

November Meeting Recap 📜

  • Susan Rardin has been appointed the new precinct chair for Jackson 1. Congratulations Susan!
  • The PR committee has published a new page of community resources on the party website. If you have suggestions of resources we should add, contact Julia Spangler at [email protected]
  • Candidate search
    • We are still in need of candidates for nearly all open positions. The filing period is Jan. 7 - Feb. 6, 2026. Even if you don't have the desire to campaign aggressively, we are still hoping to deliver a full slate of candidates to give the community options and build name recognition. If you're interested in learning more about becoming a candidate, contact Lora Lewis Rudd at [email protected].
  • T-shirts
    • The t-shirt committee is still working on designs and identifying an online storefront to allow individual ordering and payment. The group discussed its preference for using a local business or union shop.
  • Events committee
    • We discussed the benefit of creating a year-long events calendar, along with several ideas for changing up our annual events. A short-term committee (composed of Susan Rardin, Christy Crandall, Marion Banzhaf, Lora Rudd, and Jacob Quackenbush) was formed to discuss the events calendar in more detail and present recommendations at a future meeting.
  • Vacant party positions
    • The party has several vacancies for precinct chairs and vice chairs, which has prevented the committee from reaching a quorum for voting for the last several months. Party rules have recently been changed to allow for the chair and vice chair to be the same gender, as opposed to a male/female pair. Precinct chairs are responsible for outreach to their neighbors to support Democratic candidates, equipped with voter data from VAN.
    • We are also seeking a new Democratic appointment to the Election Board. You must be available in the month of November 2026 to oversee elections.
    • We also need six people interested in being delegates to the state Democratic convention. See below for detailed information.
    • If you're interested in any of the vacant party positions, contact Lora Lewis Rudd at [email protected].
  • Platform committee
    • Because we did not have a quorum of voting members, we postponed an official vote to adopt the platform until January. Read the draft platform here.

Redistricting Isn't Dead Yet! Call Your Reps 📞

The Indiana House of Representatives is convening on Monday, Dec. 1 to take up the issue of redistricting. The Senate plans to reconvene on Monday, Dec. 8 to vote on the House’s redistricting proposal. This article on Indiana Public Media provides some background on the about-face from lawmakers, who previously stated they would not convene in December.

Call your reps today to oppose new maps! You don’t need to say a lot – keep it short and ask them to vote no on any early redistricting proposals.

Call State Representative Dave Hall:
317-232-9978

Call State Senator Eric Koch:
317-232-9400

Call Governor Braun:

317-232-4567

Use this tool to look up your state senator and rep if you’re not sure who specifically represents you.

Submit Testimony for Committee Meetings 📝

House committee hearings are expected on Tuesday, Dec. 2 and Senate hearings on Tuesday, Dec. 9. They may not allow time for everyone to testify, but submitted testimony will be printed and delivered to lawmakers, serving as an important record of opposition. Submit your testimony here using a tool created by Mad Voters Indiana.

Rallies at the Statehouse ✊

Make your voice even louder by attending the rallies at the Indiana Statehouse on Dec. 1 (RSVP, organized by ACLU Indiana and partners) and Dec. 8 (RSVP, organized the Indiana Democratic Party).
