            SUSTAINABILITY SIG

Get involved: Initiative Sustainability at Scale in Engineering Education

The Initiative Sustainability at Scale in Engineering Education was launched on 19 November by the Sustainability SIG. Originating from efforts to improve large-scale first-year courses in Engineering Higher Education Institutions, it provides a space for practitioners integrating sustainability — whether through individual activities, modules, or full courses — to co-create collaborations and learn from each other’s experiences. 20 registered participants from 13 different countries gathered on Zoom and went through the first two phases of co-creation.

If you want to know more or be involved in the next phases, please register here.

            QUALITY ASSURANCE AND ACCREDITATION SIG

Promoting Professional Recognition in Engineering Education

The SEFI QA&A SIG recently delivered an engaging professional development workshop at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Sheffield, introducing academic staff to the International Professional Engineering Educator Registry (iPEER)

Participants learned how iPEER certification supports educational excellence, international credibility, and career progression, while contributing to quality assurance and accreditation of engineering programmes.

SEFI ETHICS SIG at TRUTH AND AI

Fourth Perspectives About Truth Conference Features SEFI Ethics SIG Panel Contributions

The fourth edtion of the international conference Perspectives About Truth took place online, on 14–15 November 2025, gathering researchers from philosophy, logic, and neighbouring fields for two days of rich discussions on truth, meaning, ethics, political philosophy, and formal semantics.

This year’s edition featured keynote lectures by Peter Eldridge-Smith (ANU), Paul Horwich (NYU), Graham Priest (CUNY Graduate Center), and Gabriel Sandu (University of Helsinki).

A special highlight of the 2025 programme was the Truth & AI panel, which emerged from an ongoing research project developed under the SEFI ETHICS SIG umbrella. This section explored the interaction between theories of truth and contemporary issues in artificial intelligence, including semantic modelling, explainability, and constraints of AI systems.
