In June, CEE held its Annual General Meeting, attended by CEE Board Members, Team Leads and representatives from CEE Centres. The AGM provides an opportunity to update members on the charity’s activities, finances, and performance over the past year. It is one of the key ways CEE ensures transparency and accountability to our membership and the Board. We invite you to read the 2024 Annual Report, which highlights CEE’s ongoing growth and evolution as a leader in advancing evidence-informed decision-making for environmental policy and practice. The Cape Town Consensus Meeting, held from June 24 to 26, 2025, marked a milestone in our contribution to the Evidence Synthesis Infrastructure Collaborative. In this issue, we share insights from the meeting and new initiatives being undertaken by our Teams to strengthen community connections. As we move forward, CEE remains committed to supporting our global community of stakeholders dedicated to rigorous, transparent and impactful environmental evidence. |

| Building a Better Evidence Future: Reflections from the Cape Town Consensus Meeting
|
|
In June, CEE representatives joined more than 200 other evidence leaders at the Cape Town Consensus Meeting on Transforming Evidence to Improve Lives supported by Wellcome Trust and hosted by regional CEE Centre PACE (Pan-African Collective for Evidence). This meeting was the culmination of more than six months of planning and engagement through the Evidence Synthesis Infrastructure Collaborative (ESIC), a cross-sector initiative focused on co-developing innovative solutions to strengthen evidence use. |
|
Over three days, participants shaped a roadmap for a future that produces faster, more trusted, more visible and more useful evidence. The meeting concluded with the launch of the Cape Town Consensus Charter, a milestone that signals a shift from vision to action. CEE will continue to identify opportunities for our members and partners to stay engaged and contribute to shaping this emerging global infrastructure. 📖 Read the Charter |

The Evidence Synthesis and Analysis in R Conference (ESMARConf) returned this June with 20+ presentations, workshops and panels hosted by the Evidence Synthesis Hackathon. This event brought together evidence synthesists, meta-analysts and programmers to explore the latest in R packages and advances in evidence synthesis. |
|
Highlights for the CEE community include: Bias assessment: A recurring theme at the conference was the need to understand bias in and critically appraise primary literature. CEE led an interactive workshop introducing new users to our Critical Appraisal tool, along with our other evidence services like PROCEED and CEEDER. Watch the recording or explore the gallery walk exhibits.
Thank you to the Organizing Team, Ryan Field, Rafael José Vieira, Neal Haddaway and Matthew Grainger, for bringing the community together for three great days of Evidence Synthesis! 📺View the ESMARConf2025 programme and conference recordings

Did you know? The CEE Database of Evidence Reviews (CEEDER) includes more than 2,500 evidence reviews on the effectiveness of environmental management and policy interventions and human impacts on the environment. Along with making it easy to search for and identify evidence syntheses, CEEDER includes an assessment conducted by two independent reviewers of each review’s reliability, based on the primary data available for the review and the conduct of the review. It’s a powerful resource for decision-makers using evidence to inform their work. |

| Join the CEEDER Review College
CEEDER is looking for Review College members to help assess the reliability of reviews included in the database. Using the CEE Synthesis Assessment Tool (CEESAT), Review College members assess articles four times a year, committing just 2-5 hours each quarter. This is a great opportunity to: Deepen your understanding of rigorous evidence synthesis Develop a portfolio of critical skills Support evidence use in environmental decision-making Join a network of evidence users and practitioners

| The Fondation pour la Recherche sur la Biodiversité (FRB) is a leading organisation in France dedicated to supporting biodiversity research and promoting the use of research in decision-making. Since becoming the French Centre for CEE in August 2015, FRB–through its Centre de Synthèse et d’Analyse sur la Biodiversité (CESAB)–promotes CEE initiatives in France with a focus on evidence synthesis for biodiversity research. CESAB collaborates with partners to conduct evidence syntheses and offers an annual training program for researchers on Evidence Synthesis methods in biodiversity. This past July, CESAB held its first workshop for policymakers on the application of Evidence Synthesis. 👉 Learn more about CESAB |
