            36 PhD students from 13 countries gathered in Den Bosch, Netherlands, for the 3rd SEFI PhD Summer School, hosted by SEFI members Eindhoven School of Education (ESoE) in collaboration with 4TU.CEE. The week offered an intensive and enriching program focused on advancing research in engineering education.

            Participants explored topics such as research methods, data analysis, academic writing, ethics, AI in research, and career development—supported by a dedicated team of over 20 international mentors and workshop leaders. Beyond the classroom, the programme included city tours, shared dinners, and countless networking opportunities.

            This vibrant event not only empowered the next generation of engineering education researchers but also reinforced ESoE’s role as a hub of international collaboration and expertise. We look forward to next year's event!

            SEFI VOICES

            Several SEFI representatives participated at the 2025 ASEE Annual Conference in Montréal, contributing to sessions that emphasised global collaboration and innovation. Key topics included iIntegrated engineering education and institutional transformation, ethics, research-driven innovation and more! 

            

            SEFI was proudly represented by Emanuela Tilley (UCL, SEFI Vice President), Klara Ferdova (SEFI Secretary General), Diana Adela Martin (Co-Chair, SEFI Ethics SIG), Prof. Euan Lindsay (University of Aalborg), Johanna Naukkarinen (Lappeenranta University of Technology).             • Engineers4Europe closing event at the European Economic and Social Committee

            At a high-level event marking the conclusion of the Engineers4Europe (E4E) project, SEFI President Balázs Vince Nagy (Budapest University of Technology and Economics) joined a distinguished panel of representatives from industry, youth organisations, and the European Commission to discuss the evolving skillsets engineers need—and how to make the profession more attractive.

            Held at the European Economic and Social Committee and opened by Themis Christophidou, Director-General of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy, the event also marked the launch of a new Skills Strategy, a key outcome of the E4E project.               SEFI’s commitment to advancing accreditation practices is driven through the work of its Special Interest Groups (SIGs). In particular, the Quality Assurance and Accreditation SIG, co-chaired by José Carlos Quadrado (ENAEE) and Dr. Raja Toqeer (The University of Sheffield), plays a key role in engaging with and shaping evolving accreditation frameworks across Europe and beyond.                 Siemens Digital Industries Software announced that its ‘Design for the Circular Economy (Sustainable Operations pathway)’ microcredential has been recognized by ABET, an ISO 9001 certified quality assurance agency responsible for the accreditation of STEM academic programs, recognition of credentials and assessment of student learning that supports excellence in education worldwide. This is the first industry credential to receive ABET recognition under its Certificate Recognition Standards.

                            INVESTMENT IN INNOVATION

                            The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) is investing €63 million through its 2024 Higher Education Initiative, supporting 47 projects across 46 countries. The initiative connects 620 organisations to strengthen innovation capacity in higher education. 12 projects will focus on deep tech, contributing to the EIT’s goal of training 1 million deep tech talents by 2025.
