| Message from the President
As we wrap up June, I am pleased to reflect on another month of continued engagement, technical leadership and global collaboration across the Aquanty network. Here’s a quick look at what's new at Aquanty this month: |

|
|
| We have a software sale in the month of July and we've recently been nominated as finalists for a couple of projects in the Water Canada Awards which you can learn more about below. We also have new case studies, research highlights and a new webinar happening in August. Thank you to everyone who continues to engage with us— whether you’re attending a webinar, reading our latest blogposts, or are contributing to real-world applications of our platforms. We look forward to sharing more with you in July!

|
| Looking ahead, we’re kicking off July with something special: a month-long software sale on HydroGeoSphere licenses to celebrate Canada Day.
|
|
From July 1–31, we’re making it easier than ever to get started with HGS: If you’ve been thinking about integrating HGS into your workflows, this is a great opportunity to join a global community of modellers and researchers using one of the world’s most advanced hydrologic platforms. Click here to learn more about the software sale, or contact us at [email protected] to request a quote. |
|
Beyond the sale, we’re pleased to share that both of our nominations for the Water Canada Awards were accepted as finalists: Manitoba Forage and Grassland Association was named a finalist for the Early Adopter/Innovation Partnership Award, recognizing the impactful work we've done together to advance real-time decision support for agricultural water management. HydroSphereAI is a finalist for the New Tech Award. This is great news and we're really glad to see this innovative and impactful technology recognized at the Water Canada awards. If you want to learn more we recently published our first case study for HydroSphereAI below.
|
|
This month we had also published our first HydroSphereAI case study, highlighting how our machine-learning-based forecasting platform helped Grey Sauble Conservation Authority respond to a high-flow event on the Sauble River this past spring. The platform’s ensemble forecasting captured the timing and structure of both streamflow peaks with precision, even as weather forecasts shifted. The case study underscores the value of AI-driven tools for flood forecasting and decision support. Check out the full case study our blog. |

| Upcoming OWC Webinar We’re excited to bring HydroSphereAI to an even broader audience as part of the Ontario Water Consortium’s Innovation Webinar Series. Ontario’s leadership in water innovation will be on full display in this upcoming session:
Webinar 1: HydroSphereAI Date: Thursday, July 3 | 12:00–12:45 PM ET Presenter: Dr. Andre Erler, Aquanty
Explore how Aquanty uses machine learning to enhance flood forecasting and climate adaptation in Ontario’s watersheds. This 45-minute session is part of a series highlighting transformative technologies in water and wastewater management across Ontario. Registration is now open, and we encourage you to join us and the Ontario Water Consortium to see what’s next in data-driven water forecasting. |

| Assessing the Sensitivity of Subsurface Mine-Dewatering Simulations to Surface Water Representation Webinar Join us for an insightful session exploring how climate change can influence mine dewatering strategies, featuring cutting-edge integrated hydrologic modelling approaches.
Date: Wednesday, August 13 | 12:00 PM 1:00 PM Presenter: Andrea Brookfield, Associate Professor in the Earth and Environmental Sciences Department at the University of Waterloo
Explore how integrated hydrologic modelling can improve dewatering strategy planning in a changing climate. Learn how fully coupled groundwater–surface water models compare to traditional approaches, and how future climate scenarios can impact predictions for mine water management. |

| A Continuous Differentiable Formulation for Seepage Face Boundary Conditions in Dynamic Groundwater Systems This research by Aquanty staff introduces a continuously differentiable formulation for seepage face boundary conditions in dynamic groundwater systems. Traditional approaches often model seepage faces with abrupt boundary transitions, leading to numerical instabilities, convergence issues, and computational inefficiencies in transient groundwater simulations. This research presents a novel approach that ensures smooth transitions between saturated and unsaturated zones, improving the stability and accuracy of numerical groundwater models.

| Find our monthly HGS software update on our 'HGS Downloads' page, the June 2025 software update is now available. This release focuses on runtime performance, flexible boundary conditions, and easier model setup for large-scale HGS simulations.
1. New environment variable flags for faster grok.exe runtime on large models.
2. Refactored node selection commands with improved input parsing.
3. New head offset boundary condition (replaces elevation offset).
4. New choose nodes from node set command for streamlined workflows.
As always, we are committed to the continued improvement to the user experience. Do you have suggestions for new commands or improvements to the user experience? Send your ideas to [email protected]!
