Events Diary

Reading of The Hound of the Baskervilles this Tuesday, June 10th

This month we'll be reading The Hound of the Baskervilles by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, adapted for the stage by Steven Canny and John Nicholson. This is with a view to performing it as our show for the Streatham Festival in October.

Steven and John say that this script was written for Peepolykus, a company with their roots in clowning, and whose shows are reminiscent of Laurel and Hardy, The Marx Brothers and The Mighty Boosh. In this (very) fast show, three actors do the work of 12, and break the fourth wall more times than you can shake a stick at!

Sounds like a challenge! Come and see how we all get on!

Tuesday June 10th at 7,30 pm (doors open 7 pm)

Members free, others £5 at the door

Vinters Studio 2, 1b Sunnyhill Road, SW16 2UG

Streatham Arts Community are Looking to Reopen the Space Project

Jane Wroe-Wright of Heart Streatham and our own David Harvey aim to build a community of those interested and involved in the arts in and around Streatham and South London with the aim of reopening the Space Project.

They have met with Lambeth Council who have begun engagement with the owners of the development. The Theatres Trust are also involved and due to meet council representatives. Lambeth are looking for a new operator and Streatham Arts Community (SAC) have offered to help select them. SAC have also agreed to consider being an operator of last resort if no one is found and have also requested meanwhile use.

For more information and to join up, visit the Streatham Arts Community http://sac.qaz.me.uk website.

Could You be our New Membership Secretary?

Terry Wynne has been our Membership Secretary since we began in 2013, but he has now has indicated his wish to stand down at the next AGM, and we are looking for someone to fill his very capable shoes.

Here is a high-level summary of the role. If you're interested, please contact us on [email protected] and we can send you the full role description.

The role of Membership Secretary comprises the following actions:

  • Managing members' account data: Maintaining a register of current members, prompting those members whose membership is about to expire to renew, giving each new member a membership card.
  • Encouraging new members to join: Attending shows, workshops, and other events, and encouraging non-members to join as an alternative to paying a non-member fee by promoting the benefits of membership.
  • Adding new contacts’ email addresses to the STC emailing list.
  • Providing an up-to-date report at each committee meeting on the current number of members and the number of contacts on the mailing list.
  • Replying to emails inquiring about our activities generally

Take Part in Events Throughout the Year!

We welcome all members' suggestions for events, and are very happy to consider offers from members to facilitate events. We will always offer help and support to potential facilitators, if required. Please note that we don't normally pay fees, as we are all volunteers.

As well as providing interesting readings, workshops and talks, our events are a great way of keeping in touch with others from STC. They are usually free to members and only £5 to others, so please do come along.

Keep a look out for our emails or check our website for details of planned events coming up next year.

These events are kindly run by volunteers from STC or our friends in show business.

You can join us or renew your subscriptions at events too - at only £10 a year to subscribe, it quickly pays itself back due to free admission to events and discount performance tickets, and helps us keep theatre in Streatham.
