SASTA Annual General Meeting

The 2025 Annual General Meeting of members of the South Australia Science Teachers Association Inc. will be held on Tuesday 15 April at 10.10am at Glenunga International High School as part of the Annual Conference

AI Hacks - Wednesday 7 May

In a field where Artificial Intelligence is interjecting in a range of teaching and learning spaces, it helps to have a better understanding of how it’s being used. More importantly, strategies to not only manage challenges in AI but to get ahead of the game and use it to our advantage as educators. This workshop will focus on ways teachers can use AI to save time, plan, report and differentiate for learning.



Fostering Engagement: Strategies to Minimise Classroom Disruption - Wednesday 21 May

This workshop will explore some of the reasons children and young people disengage from learning and become disruptive in the classroom. With an understanding of these in mind, the workshop will explain a series of teacher-centred strategies that can be put in place to encourage engagement in learning and minimise the potential for disruptive and anti-social behaviour

    AC 9.0 has been released and with that the need to make changes to our sequences/rubrics and curriculum documentation to fit with the new descriptors. This session will take a practical approach and show implementation (which we have done this year) and also cover (more briefly): task design, assessment types and rubrics.

    New Commemorative Science Writing Topic – 2025 Oliphant Science Awards

    To mark 80 years since the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, we’re introducing a thought-provoking new topic: “If It Happened Here: The Impact of a Nuclear Bomb on Adelaide.” This special science writing category invites students to explore the science of nuclear explosions, examine long-term impacts on people and the environment, and reflect on the ethical responsibilities of scientists. The winning school will receive a Rotary Adelaide Peace Pole and a copy of Art for Peace. Proudly supported by Rotary Club of Adelaide and The Graham F. Smith Peace Foundation.

    The Australian Science Teachers Association (ASTA) school grants for National Science Week are now open. Grants of up to $500 are open to all Australian schools (preschools to senior secondary). Start your application here.

    The grants are supported by the Australian Government to support teachers and schools to deliver engaging STEM events and activities during Science Week.

    Future Health Leaders Program 2025

    Research Australia, in partnership with AbbVie, is inviting Year 11 students who identify as female to apply for the 2025 Future Health Leaders Program.     2025 South Australian Science Excellence and Innovation Awards

    Presented by the Department for Industry, Innovation and Science, these annual awards recognise outstanding contributions to STEMM in South Australia, across research, industry, and education. Categories include STEMM Educator of the Year – Primary or Secondary, PhD Research Excellence, and two refreshed categories for 2025: Mid-Career STEMM Professional of the Year and Excellence in Collaborative Innovation.     The Big Science Competition is our 50 minute, mixed format online competition testing science knowledge, critical-thinking and problem-solving skills, open to students in Years 7 to 10 globally.


    The Junior Science Olympiad is a science enrichment program for highly motivated students in Australian high schools in Years 7 to 10. It starts by sitting the JSO Exam, which covers biology, chemistry, Earth and environmental science, and physics.

    The Australian Science Olympiads is a science enrichment program for highly motivated senior students in Australian high schools. The program covers four separate disciplines: Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Science, and Physics. Students can sit one or more ASO Exams in any of the four disciplines offered.
