FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
[March 03, 2025 — Toronto, ON] – V13 Press, the publishing division of V13 Media Group, has released its first fiction title, The Cherale, a supernatural horror novel by Lance Marwood. As President and Co-Founder of V13 Promo & V13 Press and Director of Communications for V13 Media, Marwood has built a career supporting independent artists. Now, he delivers a gripping and atmospheric novel that explores fear, legacy, and the unknown.
The Cherale follows struggling writer Michael Abney as eerie disturbances begin to disrupt his life. When his young son’s behavior takes a disturbing turn, Michael uncovers a terrifying force tied to his family’s past. As the line between reality and nightmare blurs, he is forced to confront an entity that has plagued generations before him. What begins as an unsettling mystery soon spirals into a harrowing descent, testing Michael’s grip on sanity as he faces forces beyond his comprehension.
Marwood crafts an intricate horror narrative that blends psychological suspense with the raw fear of the unknown. The Cherale draws from folklore, occult traditions, and the universal terror of inherited trauma. The novel examines the weight of generational burdens, how past transgressions refuse to stay buried, and what happens when darkness refuses to let go. With its immersive storytelling and unnerving atmosphere, The Cherale is a must-read for fans of modern horror.
“The Cherale grew from the ghost stories my family's been telling me since I was a kid,” Marwood shares. “Stories they swore were true. I started writing it about three years ago during the toughest part of being a full-time dad, right after diving into Thomas Ligotti's work. The book blends cosmic horror with cursed bloodlines and East Indian folklore. If you're into that unsettling feeling that comes from wondering whether there might actually be something watching you from the shadows, or if your family's past might be following you in ways you can't explain, then I reckon this story might get under your skin in all the right ways.”
This release also marks an expansion for V13 Press, which recently launched its Path to Pro series—a resource for independent musicians looking to navigate the industry. Now stepping into fiction, the company showcases its commitment to diverse storytelling with The Cherale, delivering a novel that blends psychological tension with supernatural horror. Marwood’s background in media and communications plays a crucial role in shaping the themes of isolation, obsession, and the search for truth within the novel. His experience working with artists and creatives brings a unique perspective to this haunting debut.
The Cherale is a deep, unsettling look at how family history can shape identity and the ways in which the past refuses to be forgotten. Readers will find themselves questioning what they believe about the unseen and whether some stories are better left untold.
