SEFI 2025 Conference - Call for Papers

The Call for Papers is currently open for full research and practice papers (abstracts only will not be accepted) with a submission deadline of 1 April 2025. We welcome three submission types, described in more detail on the conference website:

  • research papers, on engineering education (both quantitative and qualitative)
  • practice papers, on teaching innovations in engineering education
  • workshops, which will demonstrate or explore an educational practice

The 9th Doctoral Symposium in Tampere

This doctoral Symposium in Engineering Education Research (EER), taking place on 14 September 2025, offers PhD candidates the chance to explore and develop their research interests in an interdisciplinary workshop, guided by senior scholars in the field. Participants will share their dissertation work and exchange feedback. The event is a pre-conference activity for the SEFI2025 Annual Conference at Tampere University, Finland.

              SEFI HANDBOOK

              Progress on a new SEFI handbook

              Since its launch in Lausanne, the SEFI Handbook on Teaching Transferable Competencies and Skills has been gaining momentum. More than 110 team and individual have expressed interest—representing over 200 contributors from five continents and 26 countries, including 15 from Europe. In line with SEFI's values, the project prioritises inclusivity, merit-based proposals, and equal collaboration within author teams. The handbook is on track to be unveiled at the SEFI Annual Conference in Prague in 2026.

                      SEFI members KU Leuven, TU Dublin, TU/e, and ENSTA will kick-off a new Erasmus+ project on 3 April 2025. The project aims to improve social and academic integration of new STEM students by designing and implementing innovative interventions that tackle challenges that are experienced by minorities such as first-generation, women, and apprenticeship students. We are glad to support the project as Associate Partners, together with Board of European Students of Technology and Instituts des Techniques d’Ingénieur de l’Industrie.

                        Practical Engineering Education Conference

                        The Practical Engineering Education (PEE) Conference has become a key forum for educators focused on hands-on learning in engineering. Since its launch at the University of Sheffield in 2021, PEE has provided a space for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and best practice development. With delegates from across the UK and Ireland, the conference continues to grow in impact and reach.
                        PEE26 will be hosted by the University of Edinburgh in July 2026, marking the first time it will be held outside Sheffield. Further details on themes, speakers, and registration will be announced soon.

                                              SHE FIGURES 2024

                                              A new report dealing with gender equality in research and innovation in the EU reveals that only 32.8% of graduates in STEM in the EU were women. Four expert-authored policy articles on gender equality in R&I explore key trends and priorities, covering Gender Equality Plans (GEPs), data collection for inclusive GEPs, gendered innovation in academic spin-offs, and women's impact on research and policy. Additionally, country fiches for each EU Member State highlight key gender equality results, ensuring accessible insights for citizens.
