The European hot topic once again: Ukraine. The Foundation for Polish Science initiative has announced the list of winners of the third competition in the FOR UKRAINE program. The international project entitled “Determinants of labor-market performance and well-being of high-skilled Ukrainian refugees in Poland” co-authored by professor Piotr Stanek, was one of three awarded. The works participating in the competition were carried out in international pairs. Professor Piotr Stanek authored the project together with Maksym Obrizan, PhD of the Kyiv School of Economics.

The aim of the research project “Determinants of labor-market performance and well-being of high-skilled Ukrainian refugees in Poland” is to assess the labor-market performance and overall well-being and migration strategies of highly skilled Ukrainian migrants. This group is particularly vulnerable to occupational degradation, to the detriment of their personal well-being and the economic performance of the host economy. The researchers plan to recruit for the study about 200 highly skilled Ukrainian refugees who left their country in response to Russian aggression against Ukraine.

Project of professor Marcin Czupryna from The College of Economics Finance and Law: “Values and Economic Performance: a Formalized Multi-agent Model”. The proposed project aims to better understand the complex relationship between culture institutions and economic performance, and its dynamics over time. In particular, the proposed model can be used to: - qualitative analysis of the effects of economic and institutional integration that have taken place in Europe over the past three decades, - to create scenarios for future economic and institutional integration, - conducting a comparative analysis of institutional and economic development under the assuming differential distribution of values among groups of agents (countries or regions) and different patterns of dynamics of the value diffusion process (i.e., social norms), - evaluate the consequences of various interventions that affect the diffusion of values or their importance, i.e., the relevance of values to decisions.

The refugee crisis caused by Russia's military aggression against Ukraine is the largest in Europe since the end of World War II. By 2024, nearly a third of Ukraine's population remains internally or cross-border displaced. The response to this geo-political situation is an increase in scholarly interest in the subject in an attempt to understand and solve the problems.

The project focuses on the situation of migrants (especially Ukrainians in refugee-like situations) in receiving countries. It aims to facilitate the development of workable integration policies by municipalities in the Czech Republic and Poland and to monitor and learn from good practices related to migrant integration in other European countries and in Israel.
