Growing through Climate Change

Editorial

Dear friends,

The Chinese symbol that equates opportunity and crisis feels very relevant for these turbulent times, and whilst I feel alarmed about the future, I also feel excited about its possibilities.

Some of the wisest views on climate change (e.g. Rupert Read, Gail Bradbrook, Jem Bendell) see it as at root a spiritual crisis. And I feel the best contribution I can make is helping to create the Soul Resilience Network, see more below. You'll also find a range of resources that may help you discern your best response amidst the ongoing confusions of life.

With blessings,

Alan

Feature blog: Introducing the Soul Resilience Network
Image description

These are times of crisis, breakdown, and opportunity, when we need to find a sense of meaning and purpose in our own lives, in our communities, and in the bigger picture. This new network aims to help people and groups who are searching at the level of soul or spirit for a higher purpose beyond personal and material concerns. See more at www.soulresilience.net.

We want to offer a sense of fellowship, a range of ways to explore, and a community that can deepen together, to give people the inspiration and soul strength to grow and be of service. We especially hope to support young people, whose despair about the future is often acute.

We are exploring four main initiatives:

  • Virtual Fellowship Circle: an online sharing, exploration and support space.
  • Pilot programmes: both online and in person.
  • Resources and connections: especially via our website.
  • Spiritual community and learning centre: medium-term, we hope to create a physical base in Mid Wales, to include growing food and teaching practical skills.

Climate change is such a huge and potentially overwhelming issue that it's hard to engage with. Chapter 6 of my book was the hardest to write, but I believe it offers a good map to help you grow through climate change. So if you haven't bought my book yet, here's a good reason to do so! Community Climate Resilience: project update

Alan writes:
Since the September newsletter, this project has secured £96K of funding from members of the Network for Social Change, we've appointed a part-time Project Director, and Year 1 plans are underway. We hope that this work will have substantial benefits for many community groups in Years 2, 3 and beyond.

Bonus blog: Donald Trump and the Second Coming

Positive news on community responses to disasters

After more than 2000 years since the birth of his son God felt that it was more than time to stage the second coming. He felt it was actually getting a bit late. Mankind was screwing up pretty bad. But, who was going to pay attention in a world full of social media, plentiful news sources, a whole range of organized religions as well as more loosely defined spiritual practices and teachers. Who would pay attention if his son would come back and add his message to the whole variety of truths that was being presented?
