VoNat Educates Communities on Mount Muanenguba’s New Conservation Status

The Cameroon Government, February 2023, signed a decree transforming Mount Muanenguba, a melting pot for biodiversity species located in the South West and Littoral regions of Cameroon, into Herpeto-ornithological Sanctuary. This made the mountain the first protected area in the country for the conservation of amphibians, reptiles and birds. Though the move by the Cameroon Government was widely celebrated, most local communities members have little or no idea about the decree, making the implementation of the new conservation objectives unrealistic. Read More

VoNat’s ED Recognised for Impact in Nature Protection, Climate Change

Cameroon is host to over 56,000 Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) from both English and French speaking regions of the country, playing a crucial role in accompanying the government in the country’s development. One of Cameroon’s leading national daily newspapers, The Guardian Post, in its issues of Monday December 02, 2024, recognized the Executive Director of Voice of Nature (VoNat), Ndimuh Bertrand Shancho and 32 other Anglophone civil society leaders in Cameroon for the tremendous impact they are making fostering nature protection, climate change, democracy, human rights and sustainable development amongst others. https://vonat.org/vonats-ed-re...

Climate Solutions; Nurturing Kids for Nature in Buea

For the first time, Otancia Matambe, a secondary school student in Buea, had the opportunity to learn how to nurse a tree seedling. A skill she had only heard from her school mates who had participated in the previous Climate Action Program, of Voice of Nature (VoNat). Intrigued by the stories from her peers, she had longed for another of such sessions to be held again, so she can partake. “This is my first time learning how to nurse a tree seedling. I have learnt how to care for and grow plants. I am happy with what I have learnt here today”. Otancia shared. Read More

“My Experience at VoNat has been Instrumental to my Professional Growth”

On June 15, 2024, a young graduate awaiting his master’s thesis defense at the Department of Geography in the University of Buea-Cameroon, Stanely Kum, applied to join Voice of Nature (VoNat)’s Volunteering and Youth Mentorship Programme. On Tuesday July 2, 2024, he was recruited to serve as VoNat’s Landscape Restoration Coordinator, in consonance with the Organization’s strive to groom the next generation of biodiversity conservation and sustainable development leaders. The youngster, who backed an MSc in Geography shortly after joining the Organization, served the organization up to November 30, 2024. Shortly after leaving VoNat, the former volunteer sent a message to the organization, recognizing its role in helping him land his first job and career as a whole. Read More

Kids Plant Trees to Limit Climate Impacts in Douala

Kids and youth are embarking on a hands-on tree planting initiative across many communities in Bonaberi-Douala, Littoral Region of Cameroon to fostering climate adaptation and climate impact mitigation. The ornamental, fruit and medicinal tree species planted in schools, hospitals, churches and other public spaces is part of two micro projects developed and implemented by some 20 kids and youths as part of Voice of Nature (VoNat) and Meg Wah(My Earth)’s annual EcoKids programme. The EcoKids programme, implemented with funds from Earth Rising Foundation, aims to raise young climate ambassadors in Cameroon.  Read More   

VoNat Accompanies Make It Greener in YEEP2 Programme

Voice of Nature (VoNat) is accompanying Make it Greener NGO in the implementation of the second edition of its Youth Engagement in Environmental Protection (YEEP2) programme in the North West and South West regions of Cameroon. The YEEP2 Programme aims to get more young people within the age of 12 and 35 engaged and empowered in environmental protection and initiatives that challenge climate change. How Fishermen’s Taboos Preserve Porcupine Fish in Limbe, Cameroon

At the bustling fishing site in Dockyard Down Beach-Limbe, South West Cameroon, a curious sight caught the attention of a team of conservationists from a community-based organization in Cameroon, Voice of Nature (VoNat), November 26, 2024. A Porcupine fish, laid abandoned near the fishing boats. While its distinctive features might fascinate many, local fishermen seemed to have no interest in it. Read More
