Remco Evenepoel burst onto the scene a few years ago and has steadily been taking title scalps. The TT in Paris in my opinion was a no brainer, but the men's road race was a proper test. The goal of gold is hard to resist, even Pogacar is admitting this now, rather ruefully. All the top guns were in this race, each one with unique talents, but meagre car support and no radios, it was a proper test. Remco went away solo using his TT skills, much like Faulkner (USA) today in the women's road, and then just like that for both, silver became the new goal for the chasers! Remco had a major wheel panic kms from the line and not knowing his time gap, was in a proper panic. Then came the quickest bike change, outside of a cross race I have ever seen! And he was home to goal, the first man in history to do the Olympic goal double. But what we seen was in my opinion, close to a million people enjoy a blistering pace, an arm's length from their smiling screaming faces! And for free!! I say it again, along with the amazing Novak Djokovic win, cycling and tennis saved this Olympics!
