 Playing the Wild Card

Image description

Clement Regert delivered a thoroughly entertaining and joyful evening of great music with his trio Wild Card featuring Chris Bland on the Nord organ (complete with Leslie speaker) and Filippo Galli on drums. The disappointingly meagre but hugely appreciative audience of just 14 did a great job encouraging the band and making them feel welcome.

The set included a number of the trio's original tunes, along with some fascinating reworking of Michael Jackson's "Beat It" and Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit". It was a tight and dynamic performance throughout, with some blinding solos from all three artists. The audience loved it and the band shifted a few CDs during the break, which is always great to see!

I'm away for a couple of weeks now, but I'll get a video together on my return. Our 'resident reviewer' Ian Mann was unable to attend this gig, and I have packing to do, so we'll have to go with just our own memories of what was another exceptional night at The Marr's Bar!

Thanks to our wonderful photographer Carl Freeman for getting the above photo over to me on Friday morning so I could get this piece written up before I go! I'm sure he'll be sharing some great shots over the next few days, so give him a follow on Facebook (Carl Whotakes Photos) or Instagram (carljfree).

Next Up - Jakub Klimiuk Quintet

Music Spoken Here presents Jakub Klimiuk Quintet

The Marr's Bar, 12 Pierpoint Street, Worcester WR1 1TA

Thursday 31st October

Doors 8pm, band starts 8:30pm

Pay what you can on the door

We'll be back at The Marr's Bar in four weeks with Polish guitarist Jakub Klimiuk and his quintet, featuring Simeon May (tenor sax / bass clarinet), Cody Moss (piano), Huw V Williams (bass) and Adam Merrell (drums).

His music fuses elements of modern jazz inspired by the New York scene with influences drawn from the Scandinavian improvised music scene. The resultant repertoire is a thrilling combination of scripted forms and improvised sections, constantly entwining melodic compositions and experimental sonic escapades!

Our resident DJ will be away for this one, so if any of you fancy putting together a playlist of your favourites on Spotify let me know and I'll consider it.
