In January 2024,  Project Butterfly Interviewed the three winning composers: Marco AtturaBeniamin Baczewski, and Paavo Korpijaakko. Librettists announcement!

Opera houses and the chosen composers collaborated in the librettists selection process, ensuring a harmonious blend of creativity.

Let's know more about the esteemed works and lives of Vincenzo De Vivo, Jagoda Jagson and Mirva Koivukangas and unravel the mysteries behind the creation of operatic masterpieces.

The role of the librettist is paramount. As opera houses and composers meticulously curate their creative teams, the selection of a librettist becomes a pivotal decision, shaping the very essence of the opera masterpieces.



Operatic performances rely heavily on the librettist, who provides the words that form the basis of the entire production. Librettists aren't just storytellers. Their blend of poetry and practicality brings out the opera's emotional depth, making them crucial contributors to these remarkable works of art.

Students from Gdańsk meet Jagoda Jagson

Students from the High School no.6 in Gdańsk recently had the unique opportunity to engage with librettist Jagoda Jagson. The purpose of the meeting was to familiarise themselves with the principles and tools for crafting narratives and screenplays. Their work will eventually find place in the libretto of the opera act centred around the element of the water, part of Project Butterfly.

Beniamin Baczewski, the Polish composer who won the Open Call in Project Butterfly, was also present at the event. He shared insights into the musical aspects of opera composition and on the musical journey that accompanies the storytelling, providing the students with a comprehensive understanding of the collaborative nature of opera creation.





As the collaboration progresses, further details about the students' contributions to the libretto and the Opera's development will be revealed.
