FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

[Shipley, West Yorkshire - May 26th] – Today marks a significant milestone for Shipley's own Least We Got Shoes, as they release their highly anticipated debut album, Chapter 1. Known for their raw and authentic 'boxcar rock', the band brings a fresh yet nostalgic sound that captures the essence of their working-class roots and the stories of everyday resilience.

Chapter 1 is a deeply personal and emotive collection of songs that reflect the band's journey, blending rock, bluegrass, Americana, and hints of metal and punk. This album showcases the unique storytelling ability of frontman Wayne Frear, whose lyrics are drawn from real-life experiences and the lives of those around him. Tracks like “Don't Go” and “Too Late” offer listeners a glimpse into the band's soul, tackling themes of loss, love, and the urgency of living life to the fullest.

Recorded at Prospect Studios with the help of renowned players and engineers, Chapter 1 features a rich, textured sound that is both timeless and contemporary. The artwork by local artist Ingrid Greene adds a visual depth to the music, encapsulating the band's ethos of making the most of what you have – even if it's just a pair of shoes.

Wayne Frear describes Chapter 1 as a labor of love that came to life during the quiet moments of the lockdown. "These songs are about life as we know it – the ups and downs, the love and the loss. It's about telling those stories before it's too late," he explains. Ben Martin, who joined Wayne in shaping the album, brings a bluesy depth influenced by his working-class upbringing, reminiscent of the soulful sounds of Eric Clapton.

Wayne Frear, the band's founder and frontman, is known for his unfiltered approach to songwriting. Ben Martin's blues-infused guitar adds a layer of emotional complexity, while Andy Parkinson, who transitioned from mechanic to musician, anchors the band with his solid bass lines. Drummer Johnny C, with his eclectic background and vibrant style, rounds out the group's dynamic sound.

The journey of Least We Got Shoes has been marked by a series of powerful singles that have captivated listeners and critics alike. Their first single, “Don't Go”, premiered on Pop Off!, where it was described as “a delicious wayward enticement... like the musical version of you know you shouldn’t do this but what the hell — you want to". This track set the stage for their narrative-driven style, blending rock, bluegrass, and punk into a seamless, high-energy anthem.

Following the success of "Don't Go", the band released “Hangman”, a track inspired by spaghetti westerns that Vents Magazine highlighted for its “sauntering rhythm and blues-y melodies” and its ability to reflect “the untamed spirit of the wild west”. This single solidified their reputation for authentic storytelling, drawing listeners into their vivid, genre-blending world.

Their third single, “Too Late”, premiered on Music Crowns and was praised for its poignant exploration of loss and the urgency of expressing love while there's still time. The song’s haunting vocals and introspective melody were noted for their emotional depth, described as “navigating through waves of emotion” and embodying “the enduring power of love”.

Least We Got Shoes isn't just releasing an album; they're inviting listeners into their world. Chapter 1 is more than a collection of songs – it's a masterful blend of musical influences, from the grit of railway hobos and cowboys to the audacious charm of Vegas's night owls. Each track is a journey through the highs and lows of life, reflecting the band's commitment to authenticity and their deep connection to their West Yorkshire roots. This album is a testament to their journey, and it stands as a beacon for those who value genuine, heartfelt music.

About Least We Got Shoes

Hailing from the hardworking streets of Shipley, West Yorkshire, Least We Got Shoes is a band steeped in authenticity. Their music, a gritty fusion they call ‘boxcar rock‘, blends rock, bluegrass, Americana, and dashes of metal and punk, creating a sound as true to their roots as the ground beneath their feet.

Frontman Wayne Frear embodies the band’s spirit. His lyrics, drawn from his own life, are honest and unfiltered, echoing the likes of Johnny Cash in his straightforward take on life’s absurdities. Ben Martin, or B.D., brings a bluesy depth to their sound, influenced by his working-class upbringing and shaped by legends like Eric Clapton and B.B. King.

Bassist Andy Parkinson, a fellow Shipley native, swapped his mechanic tools for the bass guitar, now running two local music venues. His journey echoes the self-made path of musicians like Bruce Springsteen. Drummer Johnny C adds an eclectic beat, with a background as varied as their music, drawing on influences from family trips to the Himalayas to the raw energy of The Clash.

Together, these four musicians have created an album that’s a mix of real-life tales and larger-than-life adventures. Their songs capture the essence of freedom-seeking drifters, the resilience of cowboys, and the audacity of Vegas’s night owls. It’s music for the wanderers, the rebels, and anyone who’s ever felt on the outskirts of the mainstream.

Least We Got Shoes isn’t just playing songs; they’re narrating stories from the fringes of life. They invite listeners to join them in embracing the raw, unpolished truths of existence, shared through the powerful rhythm of ‘boxcar rock’. Their music is a call to the wild, a homage to the spirit of those who walk their own path, resonating with the heartbeat of working-class Shipley and beyond.
