“Never wound a snake. Kill it”

Harriet                                                                --Harriet Tubman

Welcome to my inaugural newsletter! Not only is this Black History Month, but I am turning 35. I decided to mark my new year of life with a new endeavour to represent all of the parts of my life that make me, me. I love community, I love the culture, I love Black businesses and supporting Black entrepreneurs, I love cats, I love funny videos - so you're going to get a bit of alladat here. Read on and share.

DIJA DO'S & DONT'S

FEATURED BLACK PRODUCT

Shedavi Hair Vitamin

Shedavi makes a herbal supplement designed to improve hair and scalp from inside and out. I started using this (in conjunction with Nutrafol, which I'd already been using for several months) about 2 months ago, and I have already seen a marked improvement that I had not seen in the months prior to my edges - which had fallen out from stress, WHEW. I'm a believer in this dope Black-owned product now.

FEATURED BLACK LOCAL BUSINESS:
The Bougie Grazer

Image description

I went to the Bougie Grazer for a birthday party a couple weeks ago and loved it! Super cute venue that does made-to-order shark coochie (formerly known as charcuterie) boards. Click the photo to learn more about this cute new spot in Atlanta.

ONE THING I DID WELL! ONE THING I FUCKED UP!

I am practicing grace and respect for myself. This part of the newsletter is about a personal promise and also accountability. I hope it inspires you to show yourself some appreciation while consistently pushing to be better!

I was great at connections this month. I had catch ups, coffee dates, wine nights, and lots of new intros with cool people who I’m sure will enrich my life in some way. I value my role in this world and my network as a connector, so relationship maintenance and initiation is always valuable time spent.

I definitely fucked up my abs this month. Last fall, I got disciplined with my diet, schedule, and strength training, and I started to see signs of abs for the first time in my life. Not so much after the shit ton of alcohol and nonsense food of the holidays that spilled over into January. February, I’m committing that my birthday gift to myself is going to be a great looking body.

MY BLOG!

This blog post started as a LinkedIn post, but it’s such an important topic (and hot take!) that I felt it needed further exploration.

Black History Month is a time to honor those who have come before us as we chart a continued uplifted vision of our future. Instead of doing that, people host panels. Panels suck. They do. Truly. They are broken, uninsightful, wastes of everyone’s limited and precious time in 2024.

BUSINESS RESOURCE

The Public Policy Lab, in partnership with The National Science Foundation, is undertaking a project aimed at enhancing diversity in federal seed funding. They seek to empower innovators from historically underrepresented groups to bring their innovations to the public sphere successfully. Individuals eligible for this initiative are those who identify as belonging to underrepresented communities, possess a strong commitment to addressing community challenges, lead small teams with limited revenue, and have never pursued federal seed funding before. Each entrepreneur participant will receive non-dilutive funding of $25k.
