Annunciation is a call to each of us to notice the beauty in our world,

to connect with the energies all around us.

When I Am Among the Trees

by Mary Oliver

When I am among the trees,
especially the willows and the honey locust,
equally the beech, the oaks and the pines,
they give off such hints of gladness.
I would almost say that they save me, and daily.

I am so distant from the hope of myself,
in which I have goodness, and discernment,
and never hurry through the world
but walk slowly, and bow often.

Around me the trees stir in their leaves
and call out, "Stay awhile."
The light flows from their branches.

And they call again, "It's simple," they say,
"and you too have come
into the world to do this, to go easy, to be filled
with light, and to shine."

15" diameter, oil with mica and silver on yupo, mounted on panel

$650.

This work is part of an exhibit at Artsy.net, Glance Gander Gaze,

organized and curated by Deborah Barlow. From her curatorial statement:

Glancing is an instinctive, automatic action—a survival mechanism that continuously monitors our ever-changing surroundings. Unlike the detached nature of the gaze, glancing links us more intimately with the world we inhabit, collecting a wealth of information. Peripheral vision and bodily sensations are both acknowledged in this process. “Glancing discovers whole colonies of the to-be-seen world,” writes Casey. “Places where sight has never before been—or if it has, it now sees differently. The glance guides the eye as it comes to know the perceived world, leading it out of morestaid and settled ways of looking.”

Gander occupies a middle ground between the glance and the gaze. It is a willingness to wander without intention, to explore what is often overlooked. Gandering can take us into disorientation, perplexity and the undiscovered. The benefits of letting the eye meander can be surprising.

Into Wildness

oil paint on prepared paper, black ground, 39 x 37.5," $4,350

Spliced Connector group has a new exhibition at Artsy.net.

Into Wildness features the work of 27 member artists. Electric Sky is part of this effort.

From the curatorial statement:

"There is a human wildness held beneath the skin that finds all barriers brutishly unbearable." -Jim Harrison

In this world there is a tumbling of matter and spirit, which makes for wildness. This tumbling makes space for places thought carries us to, in consideration of the roiling change we live with.

There are many different ideas about what wildness is. Something untethered; irrationality, extreme emotional engagement. Letting loose. Stochastic. The implication is that something which is wild is untamed, and untamable.....

We Are One

Fluid Media exhibition at Artsy.net

Find it here.

All is fluid. In physics, a fluid is a body whose particles move easily among themselves. We artists who are involved with fluid media know this property of fluidity. The substance has discrete particles, and yet they move as one.

Seen from a great remove, this is a good description of life: a situation where smaller parts create the whole. We are a small part of an absolutely amazing world.

Charles and Ray Eames published a brilliant book called “Powers of Ten”, which takes us visually from the galaxy scale to the proton scale of life. In every scale, we see “particles” moving among themselves. We see patterns replicating and changing and motion everywhere..

As Rick Rubin says in the end of his foundational book, “The Creative Act”,

“Art has an ability to connect us beyond the limitations of language.

Through this, we get to face our inner world outward, remove the boundaries of separation, and participate in the great remembering of what we came into this life knowing: There is no separation. We are one.”

The online exhibit is on view through March 8th.
