Corteva Hawai‘i hosts fundraisers to support the Maui Strong Fund

Employees from Corteva Hawai‘i rallied together to find a way to help those affected by the tragic wildfires in Maui that started on August 8. Within a week, the team at the Hawai‘i Research Center coordinated fundraisers to sell plants, baked goods and miki soup with all proceeds benefitting the Maui Strong Fund by the Hawai‘i Community Foundation. From the team’s quick planning, the Hawai‘i Research Center raised a total of $6,530 with the plant sale bringing in $3,464, the bake sale bringing in $1,532 and miki soup fundraiser bringing in $1,534. Additionally, the team at Waialua contributed $580 to the fundraising efforts for a grand total of $7,110 donated to support the immediate and long-term recovery needs of our neighbors affected by the devastating Maui wildfires. We’re grateful for our employees who generously give back to the communities they live and work in. Mahalo, Corteva Hawai‘i team!

Corteva Hawai‘i awards $70k in grants to schools and

community organizations on Kaua‘i and O‘ahu

Corteva Hawai‘i provided $70,000 in grant funding to 12 organizations on Kaua‘i and five organizations on O‘ahu. Corteva Hawai‘i awarded money to schools like King Kaumuali‘i Elementary School, Alaka‘i O Kaua‘i Charter School and Moanalua High School to name a few. Other organizations that received grant funding include the Hawai‘i Foodbank Kaua‘i, West O‘ahu Soil & Water Conservation District and more.

The schools will be utilizing the funds received from Corteva Hawai‘i in different ways, but some examples include STEM programs, science programs, robotics and a school garden. Other organizations plan to use the money to fund a School and Keiki Pantry Program, Backpack Program, food safety audit, Agricultural Leadership Program and more. Corteva Hawai‘i’s Ryan Oyama and Laurie Yoshida met with Kaua‘i DOE school principals and Kaua‘i Area Complex

Superintendent on September 19 to present the grant awards.

For more information on specific schools and organzations awarded on Kaua‘i, check out The Garden Island story here.

Congratulations to Joao for running the Kauai 50 and Under the Moon race!

Congratulations to our very own, Joao Kopytowski Filho, on finishing the Kaua‘i 50! The brutal 50-mile race through the

Kaua‘i coffee fields had little wind and almost no shade, but Joao finished with a time of 12:07:47. About 170 people signed up for the race, 111 started and only 73 finished! Mahalo to our other volunteers who came out to support Joao and the other Kaua‘i 50 runners.

Additionally, he competed in the Under the Moon race on Hawai‘i Island on June 3, that included three ultra-distance races (50k, 100k and 200k) and one regular 25k. It’s a smaller race than the Kauai 50 that Joao took first in the 50k race. Starting at Maunakea Access Road at 10 p.m. and finishing in Waimea, Joao’s time was 5:14:01. We are so proud of Joao!

Meet Christine Cablingan, who celebrated 25 years at Corteva Hawai‘i!

Since November 13, 1997, Christine Cablingan has been part of the Corteva Hawai‘i ‘ohana. She started with sunflower pollinating, moving to the genetics group, transferring
to operations and then to the ATI field, where she’s currently working now. Her main responsibility is leading the team in pollination and other related tasks such as planting, sorting and harvesting.

Prior to working with the company, Christine worked at  KFC and at a hotel. Her mom used to work with Pioneer and encouraged her to apply for the job. She has stayed with Corteva for nearly 25 years because of the people she works with and the great benefits. She feels like it is her second home. Christine says she hopes she can work for another 25 years. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family doing everything from shopping, having picnics and watching movies together.

Mahalo, Christine, for being part of the Corteva Hawai‘i ‘ohana for 25 years!
