🎂 HAPPY BIRTHDAY!  🎂

The Greater Harlem Coalition Was Founded 5 Years Ago

Five years ago representatives from West Harlem, Central Harlem, and East Harlem came together to fight for equity, and an end to the addiction program, drug treatment, and harm reduction redlining that has packed program after program in our community.

We called ourselves The Greater Harlem Coalition.

GHC has now grown to over 160 block associations, Harlem businesses, faith-based organizations, and not-for-profits.

THE DATA

The Open-Air Use of Drugs Purchased Near OnPoint Occurs During OnPoint's Open Hours

The open-air drug marketplace that flourishes in front of OnPoint continues to impact East Harlem.

Data collected over this past summer points to the increase in open-air injecting and smoking noted by long-term community residents.  Many of these neighbors report increased drug activity in front of Harlem schools, businesses, mass transit sites, and homes.  85% of this open-air drug activity occurs during OnPoint's open hours by users that choose to use within only a block or two from OnPoint:

We are asking OnPoint to increase their community outreach and focus on reducing the open-air drug use in front of Harlem schools, businesses, and homes.

WHAT DOES HARLEM WANT?

How Could OnPoint Be A Better Neighbor?

Harlem wants the following from OnPoint:

  • The raw, unedited data from OnPoint intake forms with Personal Identifying Information redacted

  • OnPoint to serve East Harlem residents and not serve as a regional hub

  • OnPoint East Harlem to track and publish their participants’ addiction status outcomes

  • OnPoint's funding to be dependent on reduced levels of street dealing/using, participant and dealer loitering, and overdosing

  • Supervised injection sites to be open in all 51 city council districts
