| This project, and in particular the exhibition, takes its full force in Nantes, France's leading trading port in the 18th century with 1,800 shipments, and which, since 30 years ago, has been carrying out history and remembrance work that is recognised in France and internationally. Many local actors and associations are involved in this work, especially Caribbean and African communities with whom we work since a long time. The aim of this work of remembrance is to acknowledge history, to confront it and to combat the societal legacies that are still very present in our European societies, such as racism and discrimination. During their presentation in Nantes, the works created will be fully engaged in the social debate. Nantes has a rich historical heritage still visible in the historical centre on the old buildings and in the museum of the history of Nantes. |

| Who Is In Charge of the Curation? |
|
Les Anneaux de la Mémoire, in collaboration with Pro Progressione, Vania Gala, and the consortium members, will curate this monumental exhibition. Les Anneaux de la Mémoire has 30 years of experience in working with Afro-descendant communities on the memory of the trade of enslaved people and slavery. Although its work is primarily concerned with the dissemination of history, for several years it has been working with artists, in a dialogue between African and Caribbean partners and artists. The Association keeps abreast of the latest approaches to memory work, particularly the 'decolonial' movement. It takes these approaches into account in its daily work. It has organised some 20 exhibitions, the most recent of which have had an artistic component: Mémoires libérées, Retour and Femmes et esclavage. All three were developed in dialogue with artists from Africa, the Caribbean and the Diaspora. |
