Nourish is marking 10 years since we launched as a charity with a vision: a Nova Scotia where children and youth are well-nourished to live, learn and play. Since 2013, we’ve played a key role in supporting universal breakfast programs, launched our Local Food Lunch Toolkit with recipes for food service workers, supported healthy school fundraising (and farmers!) with Nourish Your Roots, and developed the school community garden program Grow Eat Learn which will relaunch in 2024 after hitting rocky COVID soil in 2020. We invited partners and supporters to reflect on our first decade:
From a teacher: “Thank-you again to Nourish NS for everything they are doing to support healthy learning initiatives for students (and teachers!).”
From a principal: “Nourish has supported our breakfast snack program in helping provide funds and make community connections. Both of these have helped us support students (families) with food insecurities.”
From a former staff member: “Our work - both with school and communities, and in advocating for a national school food program - felt truly impactful.”
From a partner organization: “In a time where nearly a quarter of Nova Scotians are experiencing food insecurity, the hard work Nourish does has never been more important!”
