STRIVING FOR A HARLEM WHERE ALL PEOPLE CAN THRIVE

SIGN THE PETITION

Supervised Injection Sites and Six Sensible Guardrails

Greater Harlem Coalition has launched a petition on change.org to raise awareness regarding OnPoint's Supervised Injection Site location next to 9 Harlem schools and the gross underestimation of funding needed to mitigate the negative impact on the community. Decades of systemic oversaturation have packed Harlem with harm reduction programs, NYC's largest drug treatment programs, and homeless facilities. We need NYC and NYS to de-densify this structural oversaturation.

Despite the negative impact of OnPoint's site, New York State Senators and Assembly Members are actively reviewing bill S399 and A338 to legalize the injection site and to fund the operation with government funding.

We have launched a petition to allow your thoughts to be heard by these lawmakers. PLEASE help sign this petition on www.change.org/CommunityHarmReduction, and importantly, record in WHY YOU ARE SIGNING THE PETITION to reflect your personal experience of the site

NEW INITIATIVE FROM THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION

A National Database That Tracks Nonfatal Overdoses

The Biden administration is has created a new national database that tracks nonfatal overdoses.  The Non-Fatal Opioid Overdose Surveillance Tracker will follow overdose rates, the illegal drug supply, and help assess the effectiveness of local responses to the overdose epidemic.

In most of the country, authorities and groups working to address the crisis simply don't know exactly how many people experience a drug overdose, but survive.  This information deficit makes it difficult to then steer resources to specific cities or neighborhoods where help is needed the most.

“Experiencing a nonfatal overdose is one of the most important predictors of a future fatal overdose,” said Rahul Gupta, the director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy. “The new nonfatal opioid overdose dashboard allows us to provide first responders, clinicians, and policymakers with real-time, actionable information that will improve our responses and ultimately save lives.”

The dashboard will display data from as recently as two weeks ago, Gupta said, making it the most current and comprehensive estimate of drug overdoses available. Currently, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention provides estimates of drug overdoses with roughly a six-month lag.
