ANNUAL CONFERENCE

SEFI 2022 is almost here!

We are excited that your Annual Conference is finally coming! This year, we have a lot to look forward to. It is our 50th conference, the 50th anniversary of UPC. Barcelona will provide a very special backdrop to our first in-person conference since 2019.



There are series of interesting talks, round table discussions, parallel sessions and a rich social programme. The keynote speakers include: Arnold Pears (KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden), Lourdes Reig Puig (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), Spain) and Alicia García-Holgado (University of Salamanca, Spain).

SEFI HQ

The 2022 General Assembly of SEFI will be held on Tuesday 20 September 2022, 16:00 – 18:15. This year, the GA will take place in person again at the UPC Barcelona during the SEFI 2022 Annual Conference.



You will find enclosed the agenda of the meeting as well as the official notification and proxy form. Institutional, individual, industrial and associate members are hereby invited to attend the General Assembly or to nominate a proxy (Art. 8 of Statutes). The registrations are open here.

    SEFI Deans Convention Lunch Meeting

    21st September - 13:15-14:30 - Jardins Vertex at SEFI 2022 venue 

    

    Deans, rectors and directors participating in SEFI Barcelona are cordially invited to join a lunch meeting to provide input on the ECED 2023 preliminary programme. The University of Twente representative organizing the ECED 2023 meeting will present the draft programme and ask for your feedback on some central aspects of the programme.

    In particular, we will ask for your feedback for discussion statements guiding the programme concerning the principal conference theme, Leadership for Digitalisation in Higher Engineering Education.

    a practical workshop to practice responding to discriminatory comments

    05 October 2022 15:00 - 16:30 CET. You know that moment when someone says something biased that you struggle to know how to respond to? This interactive online workshop can help expand your repertoire of responses & refine your technique. Specifically, we will practice:  choosing words that clearly communicate that biased comments are not acceptable; employing non-verbal communication modes to build trust and diffuse tension; fostering learning environments which are inclusive and respectful of all people.

    Following the retirement of the Secretary general, Francoise Come, and the graduation of our last year's Communication Assistant, Clara Luque, SEFI HQ has undergone some structural changes, nominating Klara Ferdova as Executive Director of the organisation and hiring July Gonzales as Communication Assistant.

    Siemens Skills for Sustainability Network

    21st September - 17:00 to 18:30 at SEFI 2022 Annual Conference

    A new initiative is designed to engaged faculty worldwide that will provide an opportunity to get insights, share ideas gain feedback, and exchange best practices with peers and industry on embedding sustainability in engineering education. Siemens will discuss 'What mindset, skills and tools do students need to learn, and how, to bring and keep the circular economy in the workplace?'. Through industry insights and peer exchange, they aim to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and ideas to help embed this topic within engineering curriculums.

    Join a fun experiment at JMP! Learn about Design of Experiments (DOE) and multifactored experimentation by growing garden cress and you will be able to change various factors at one time.

    The task: Grow garden cress and observe and measure different factors. Submit your findings to the jury and get the chance to 

    co-present your experiment at the JMP Discovery Summit in March 2023.

    *A green thumb is not required, nor any prior knowledge of DOE. You only need curiosity and an open mind.

The 2022 EQAF will be held in Timisoara, Romania from 17 to 19 November hosted by West University of Timisoara. The deadline to submit proposals is 22 July 2022. More information. 

    CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS

    2-3 February 2023 - Bilbao, Spain. EUA and its Learning & Teaching Steering Committee are seeking proposals for papers, workshops and practice presentations for the 2023 European Learning & Teaching Forum. Entitled “Connecting people, spaces and realities”, the event will take place at the University of Deusto in Bilbao, Spain, on 2-3 February 2023. The submission deadline is 7 October 2022. Here please find more information on the submission and the draft agenda of the event.

    The Czech Republic took over from France the presidency of the Council of the European Union on 1 July 2022. The new presidency's key priority is to create synergies between European and national research and innovation funding, so as to ensure the most efficient use of invested funds and resources.
