Veracruz
The state of Veracruz stands out not only for the beauty of its landscapes, beaches and cities, but also for the joy and warmth of its people. This beautiful state is located to the east of the country and borders the states of Tamaulipas, Tabasco, Chiapas and Oaxaca. Xalapa is its capital city, you will admire its historic buildings whose facades show a mixture of different architectural styles such as the Government Palace and the cathedral. During your stay, you can also visit the Museo de Antropología e Historia (Museum of Anthropology and History), considered one of the most important museums in the country. The cultural variety of Xalapa is wide, since the city is host to various events such as the Festival Internacional de Jazz (International Jazz Festival), as well as the Muestras Gastronómicas (Gastronomic Sampling). At the port of Veracruz you will enjoy the weather, the beach and delicious food. Learn about the history of the place at Fuerte de San Juan de Ulúa (San Juan de Ulúa Fort). At night, walk along the boardwalk and enjoy a typical sorbet or a traditional lechero coffee, accompanied by a freshly-made “canilla” (bread). The children will be surprised by the immense Aquarium, where they will observe various marine species. In the municipality of Antigua you will travel back in time thanks to its historical environment, you can visit the house of Hernán Cortés that -despite the fact that nature has claimed its territory- preserves an impeccable construction, it is the right spot to take the most original photos. Crossing the suspension bridge that connects Antigua with La Posta is a very fun activity. The gastronomy of Veracruz is varied and combines the flavors of the sea with traditional recipes that will delight you.
Only Veracruz is beautiful
Agustin Lara (mexican composer) was right when he said once: Veracruz is one of the most beautiful ports in México. Its beautiful beaches part of the Gulf of México are marvelous and deserving to be admired at least once in your life. The beauty of its pier incites you to want to walk through the water and look at the blue waves moving with the the wind. The main square invites you to stop in some corner and listen a melodic “son jarocho” while you enjoy a coconut or nanche ice cream in the traditional “Nieves del Malecon”. In this city, the temperature goes from the 84 to 87 °F, so the best season to visit it is during the months of February and April where you'll find a balanced weather. A delight around every corner If you're looking for a place to eat, Veracruz has a large variety of restaurants where you can select the one with the best ambiance and dishes to your taste. The sea food at Villa Rica will give you a taste of a good seafood dish and Mexican cuisine, ask your waiter for “tacos playeros” and a beer of your preference to appease the heat and your hunger. You may also try some of the Cheff suggestions such as “Lonja de Pescado with Shrimps” , “Pulpo al Mojo de Ajo “ (Octupus with Garlic Sauce) or just a “Lonja de Pescado a la Vizcaina” that will make you lick your fingers. You can also explore some of its Pueblos Mágicos. Have a road trip with your family and go to Orizaba, Xico or Coatepec. Enjoy the spectacular city of Papantla and its popular and important archaeological site “El Tajín”.

Captain Theofanis Ziagkos, Staff captain
A new colleague has joined the VCL team.
Captain Ziagkos comes to us from Greece.He will act as Staff Captain, making him the second man on board after the Master Captain. Despite his young age, he already has 20 years of sailing experience.
