Our seminar brings four experts from the US, the UK, and Brazil to explore ways in which justice and community engagement can be incorporated into the education of engineers, while also reflecting on the implications and limitations of such an approach.

Nominations open: Francesco Maffioli 2021

The SEFI Francesco Maffioli Award, launched by SEFI to commemorate its late President Prof. Francesco Maffioli (Politecnico du Milano), is given by SEFI, to individual teachers, or a team of teachers, of higher engineering education institutions members of SEFI, in recognition of open-minded development of curriculum, learning environments or tools, novel didactics, methods or systems in engineering studies. Only SEFI institutional members can nominate candidates.

Extended deadline for nominations is 15 July 2020.

SEFI SIG on CAPACITY BUILDING

SEFI takes on Capacity Building initiatives in Europe

The members of the new SIG on Capacity Building met on Thursday May 27^th for the first time. They had a lively online discussion, shared practices and decided to organize a workshop on the SEFI2021 conference focusing on an European mapping of actual staff development programs. This new SIG is of course still open for everybody who is interested in the topic. You can contact the chair.

The medium is the message, also in Engineering Ethics Education. This newsletter focuses on formats that touch students at a personal level needed to have good ethics education. It reports on the “Emotions and Intitions in Engineering Education” workshop.

A-STEP 2030 Summer School for STEM students

18, 19, 20 August 2021 - In the framework of the A-STEP 2030 project, we organise an online Summer School for STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) students to develop skills in future oriented thinking. We would be happy to recruit interested and motivated students from engineering schools all over in Europe.

The secret to acquiring professional skills

While it is important for students to work in groups during their studies, that is not enough for them to acquire many of the transversal skills needed in the professional world. A recent EPFL study highlights the need for engineering courses to explicitly address professional skills through a combination of theory and feedback.

Let's talk about skills!

New industry practices and the Digital Transformation have a major impact on the Roles & Skills expected from professionals. Dassault Systèmes is working closely with employers across industries to better identify those skills. Findings from this global effort are now available in a series of publications “Skills wanted for sustainable innovations”, of which the first issues focus on additive manufacturing designer, civil engineer and systems engineer. The 2021 EQAF, entitled “Building trust and enhancement: from information to evidence”, will take place online and will include sessions about European policies and trends, research, and practices on current developments in quality assurance. Launch of Horizon Europe work programme 2021-2022 and synergies with Erasmus+

In a long-awaited announcement by the sector, the European Commission adopted the main work programme of Horizon Europe for the period 2021-2022, shortly before the EU Research and Innovation Days on 23 and 24 June 2021. The work programme outlines the objectives and specific topic areas that will receive a total of EUR 14.7 billion in funding.

The European Commission is organising the first edition of Horizon Europe Info Days in the period between 28 June and 9 July in order to inform potential applicants about specific themes and participation requirements of the new Horizon Europe work programme.
