Afronovate Competition is an Africa Teen Geeks initiative aimed at promoting digital transformation by connecting government, corporation and fresh talent in the tech space. The competition allows learners to use the skills they learned from our Coding & Robotics lessons to solve problems in their communities or society at large.
The date for submission has been extended until 20th June 2021. The date for announcing the winners will be communicated in due course.

In order to better equip learners for the competition, we ran a series of workshops on Web Development and Coding & Robotics. All the sessions are available for viewing on our YouTube page.
The judging for all projects submitted will be based on five aspects:
1. Originality of the idea
Is the idea original/new?
Is the idea similar to any other existing idea? If yes, has the contestant identified shortcomings in the existing idea, and improved on those shortcomings?
2. Social value of the idea
Does it solve any societal problem?
3. Practicality - Is it a realistic Idea?
Can the idea be adapted to help in addressing real-life challenges?
4. Technical Aspect
Functionality - Does it do what it is intended to do?
Clean code - is the code not all over the place?
User-friendliness.
5. Presentation
Was the contestant clear in presenting the idea?
Was the presentation coherent and /or understandable?
Scoring System:
The rubric below will be used to allocate points for each project.

Each member of the winning team will get the following:
1st Prize: Laptop and Micro:Bit
2nd Prize: Raspberry Pi 4 and Arduino UNO Starter Kit
3rd Prize: Raspberry Pi 4
2. Categories
The competition is categorised according to the DBE learning phases:
Foundation Phase – Top 3 projects
Intermediate Phase – Top 3 projects
Senior Phase – Top 3 projects
FET Phase – Top 3 projects
All participants will receive certificates in recognition of their hard work and participation in the Afronovate 2021 competition.
We humbly request the parents and guardians to assist the learners in ensuring that their projects comply with the specifications as articulated in the evaluation criteria.
