Toiletry Drive

Drive-thru Toiletry Drive for Lakeridge Health Bowmanville

For the past number of years Lakeridge Health has deemed toiletry items as non-essential, which can often leave patients in the hospital without the necessary items for personal hygiene. Often, patients end up in our hospital after suffering some emergency, and are admitted without having the ability to pack a bag. We are appealing to you to help us fill this need. Our local hospital is in need of toiletry items for our patients, anything from shampoo, conditioner and body wash, to denture tablets, lip balm, and deodorant.

There are 2 ways to donate:

Drive-thru drop off of donations Saturday,
November 13th from 1-3pm at St Joseph Church, Bowmanville
(assisted by a local Girl Guide unit).

Drop off box inside the front doors of the church this weekend and next

(Saturday, November 13th - 21st)

Your generosity and kindness are greatly appreciated.

What a wonderful way to start off the Advent Season, by spreading your love for neighbour. God Bless, from staff and patients of Lakeridge Health Bowmanville

    Message on Synod

    by

    +Most Reverend Bishop Miehm

    Image description

Pope Francis has announced that in preparation for the next Synod of Bishops, there will be a worldwide conversation in the Church or a "synod" about community, engaged participation, and the mission of evangelization. This conversation will follow a two-year path and involve the People of God - everyone, everywhere. All are invited to join in prayer as we begin this synodal conversation and unite it with the Diocesan Pastoral Planning Process.

Through a survey inviting input from all the People of God, an ongoing conversation will help form pastoral priorities within our Church.

Help out and have your say by participating in the survey

    Join the conversation!

Pope Francis also hopes that the synod will inspire conversation and discussion over some topics and challenges relevant to the life of the Church in the world today. For each of the next eight weeks, all are invited to join the discussion online by contributing to three questions that change week to week.

    This week's synod questions...

Who is part of the Church?

Are any persons or groups left on the margins, expressly or in fact?

How do we listen to the laity, especially to young people and women, to consecrated men and women, to the minorities, or to the excluded?

Some great news for our nation & Church!

The Holy Father has accepted the invitation of the Bishops of Canada to visit the Church in Canada in the context of a pilgrimage of healing and reconciliation with our Indigenous sisters and brothers.

    See the Vatican News Release

It's been nearly twenty years since the Holy Father last made a visit to Canada. So, this is an exciting moment for our nation! We also pray that this visit will guide our efforts in seeking reconciliation with indigenous communities of Canada.

Now, more than ever, moms are feeling isolated and are craving connections. A Catholic moms’ group allows women to connect with other moms, topics of interest, topics that impact their personal selves and God; it provides both support and encouragement. Beyond that, moms’ groups help develop friendships with other moms providing proven mental health benefits and is a way of drawing women together to form a stronger sense of parish community.

Join us for a Zoom session on Tuesday November 30, at 7pm to learn more about what, where, when and why of starting a moms’ group and hear information on the material available to provide support.

We will welcome Mrs. Dorothy Pilarski, who spearheaded this ministry in the Archdiocese of Toronto in 2015, to this gathering and she will share with us the excellent detailed online website she has created to provide support. This is a chance to see the website and hear the overview of all the materials and support available from her Catholic Moms Groups website.

This session will be an information sharing session open to anyone interested in starting a parish mom's group.
