EARLY BIRD REGISTRATIONS - MEETING IN PERSON!

17-19 November 2021 - Unversidad Carlos III, Madrid

We are delighted to announce that the European Convention for Engineering Deans will take place in person in Madrid. The main topic of this year tries to deal with one important issue we should address as Deans of Faculties of Engineering:

    • How to prepare our students to work in a non-defined future, where boundary conditions are continuously changing and multiple stakeholders take part?

The early bird registrations end on 17 October, afterwards you will be able to register with a regular fee.

    06 October 2021, 18:00 – 19:30 CET register here

As World Mental Health Day approaches, we invite you to listen and reflect upon some of the issues faced by students who study engineering.

an international discussion on young women in engineering and technology education

    12 October 2021, 16-17:30 CET register here
In spite of continuous efforts to promote engineering and technology degrees and careers to young women, it remains a male-dominated field in Europe. In OECD countries, fewer than 1 in 3 engineering graduates are female. This low participation of girls and young women in engineering and technology education is likely because of stereotypes and expectations, rather than ability and performance differences in math and physics. For this session we invited colleagues from Brazil, Sweden and the UK to discuss and explore ways to motivate young women to pursue engineering and technology education.

    SEFI Fellows 2021

This year’s SEFI fellowship was awarded to two exceptional members of our community:

Xavier Fouger from Dassault Systemes. Xavier is a true global leader for engineering education and he has contributed to bringing the engineering education societies together internationally and not least across the boundaries between academia and the private sector. He plays a remarkable and significant role in changing engineering education.

Prof Sheryl Sorby has actively participated in the development of engineering education and shown true leadership: as a pioneering engineering education researcher, as a consistent, visible and effective advocate for equality, diversity and inclusion, as a leader in engineering education, and as a friend and colleague for so many of us in the SEFI community.

In this session, participants shared their thought on what worked and what didn’t work in the SEFI 2021 conference based on five trigger themes: Preparation, Interaction, Integration, Timing, and Self-Discipline. Although the session had fewer participants then we were hoping for, there was still a fruitful discussion about what aspects of an Online Conference should be retained utilizing the principals of Blended Learning.

      EUROPEAN COMMISSION

On 23 July, the European Commission released the long-awaited annotated grant agreement, which provides guidance to Horizon Europe applicants. While the first calls under the programme opened at the end of June, after the release of the work programme 2021-2022, the guidance was still missing. This created uncertainties for future beneficiaries notably with regard to the changes introduced in the rules for participation.
