VIDEO INVITATION

SEFI Emergency Online Education workshop

Emergency online education has been the new challenge for many engineering educators.

We invite you to this SEFI Annual conference workshop
organised by the SEFI Special Interest Group on Open and Online Education and SEEFI SIG on Physics.

CALL FOR PAPERS

Due to the current crisis in context with COVID-19, many institutions around the globe make first-hand experiences with online education and online experimentation just now. This situation is a tremendous challenge for all of us. However, it is also a chance for innovation and research. To acknowledge both the current challenges and new valuable experiences made by researchers just now, we decided to substantially post-pone the deadline for the EJEE Special Issue on Online Laboratories. The new deadline is 31 October 2020. Submissions received before that date will enter the review process accordingly.

SEFI was represented at this event with three BoD members:

Fredrik Georgsson on the 15th June 2020 participated in the Panel Discussion “European Universities beyond the Pandemic”,

Gillian Saunders-Smits on the 15th June 2020 presented “What type of engineer are you and do you have the right skills? – sharing the outcomes of the PREFER project“ and

Klara Kövesi (picture) on the 16th June 2020 presented “Engineering Education for a Sustainable Future“ by sharing the first results of the A-STEP 2030 project.

SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP ON ETHICS

The COVID-19 crisis severely disrupted the education of engineering students in Spring 2020. For engineering students learning about ethics, however, the COVID crisis also created an opportunity to make ethics issues real. In TU Eindhoven, COVID impacted on what was included in the students’ ethics courses this spring as well as on how they learned. One of the courses being taught in spring semester in TU Eindhoven was a master’s elective course entitled “Ethics and the Risk Society”.

VIRTUAL EVENTS

ASEE - At Home with Engineering Education

22-26 June 2020 - Like many conferences, the ASEE Annual Conference was a virtual event this year.

Image description

Representing SEFI, I was able to view how they realized to move this major event online, expertise that will help optimise our SEFI2020 conference. ASEE is a wonderful community that readily shares their insights and resources. My personal favourites included work on ‘laboratorials’ and a workshop on using comics in engineering courses. The keynotes provided food for thought on what future engineering education will look like. Jan van der Veen

ONLINE EVENTS

Thursday 09 July - 12-1pm AEST - Australasian Association of Engineering Education invitest you to participate in the worskhop
Assessment of Socio-Technical and Co-Design Expertise in Humanitarian Engineering by Dr Andrea Mazzurco and Dr Scott Daniel.
