At National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), Finger Lakes affiliate, we provide advocacy, education and support for families of people living with mental illness. In our weekly e-news, we share events and resources of interest to our mental health community for education, support and advocacy. NAMI Finger Lakes Family Support Group

NAMI FL Family Support Group currently meets in Zoom online:

Support Groups can be attended with a computer, cell or landline phone. To register or for information on how to attend, email [email protected] or call 607-288-2460 for assistance.


NAMI Family Support Groups are for people 18 and over who have a loved one living with Mental Illness.

In order to have a safe and manageable group size that maintains privacy to the best of our ability in an in an online format, groups will be limited to 10 people. Please register soon for best availability. Registration is required.

First Tuesday of the month 7:00 PM-8:30 PM- (December 1st)

Third Monday of the month 1:30 PM-3:00 PM- (December 21st)



If you need support now, please call the NAMI Finger Lakes Help Line at 607-273-2642. Our Help Line is answered by local NAMI family members who have experience with loved ones living with mental illness.

The NAMI HelpLine is a free, nationwide peer-support service providing information, resource referrals and support to people living with a mental health conditions, their family members and caregivers, mental health providers and the public. HelpLine staff and volunteers are experienced, well-trained and able to provide guidance.

Support Group: How To

Have you wondered how NAMI Family Support Group works using Zoom? Have you missed attending in-person Support Group meetings and hesitated joining our virtual support groups? Do you worry that you can’t attend if you don’t have a computer?

Please join us for “Support Group: How-To” December 5th at 1:00 PM or December 15th at 6:00 PM, for an opportunity to check out a group in an informal, informational setting.

. We’ll get back to you with instructions on how to access the event date of your choosing via computer or phone. Please share with others you know who don't have internet access and would like to learn to participate using a phone.

Once you’ve attended, you will know how to:

  • Register for a support group
  • Attend our safe and confidential virtual groups on Zoom- with opportunities to ask questions and practice using Zoom features on your computer OR telephone
  • Participate and engage with others in a virtual Support Group


NAMI Finger Lakes takes great care to keep groups confidential, safe and easy to attend, with a computer, cell or landline phone.

Family Support Group is for adults 18 years and older who have a loved one living with mental illness. Monthly Family Support Groups are held the first Tuesday evening at 7:00 PM and third Monday afternoon at 1:30 PM. Support Groups provide opportunities to care for ourselves, share resources, and encourage one another.

Tompkins County is currently soliciting community insight on Policing Reform through an online survey. Opportunities to engage in these online public comment events are November 20th and December 4th.


NAMI Families have important insight to share about mental health crisis and our loved ones. This is an opportunity to share your thoughts and concerns regarding mental health crisis response in our communities and other ideas you have regarding local police reform.

Re-imagining Public Safety Collaborative

Upcoming Event Reminders

The OMH Regional Advisory Committee, (RAC), meeting will be held on November 30, 2020, from 8:30am to 12:30pm. The RAC is an opportunity for Consumers/Survivors/Ex-Patients and Families of people with mental health issues, to provide actionable advice to the Office of Mental Health.

27th Annual Mental Health Conference Series: Crossroads of Mental Health and Homelessness December 1 - 4, 2020- 
Suicide Prevention & Crisis Services, Finger Lakes Independence Center and the Mental Health Association are partnering to present the 27th Annual Mental Health Conference for Tompkins County, NY. This year, the conference will be presented online via Zoom. All events are free, take place by zoom and require advance registration.

Office of Mental Health Virtual Town Hall- Tuesday, December 8, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.,
Office of Mental Health is conducting a Statewide Virtual Town Hall with Commissioner Ann Sullivan, M.D., presenting and taking feedback on OMH’s vision for the future of the public mental health system. The town hall will be held online and by phone in order to maximize access for public participation.

NAMI NYC Presents- Ending The Silence For Families Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at 4:00 PM- NAMI Ending the Silence for Families is for parents and other caregivers of middle and high school students. NAMI Ending the Silence for Families is a 50-minute presentation for parents and other primary caregivers of middle and highschool students that helps raise awareness around mental health conditions through an informative PowerPoint and short videos.
