Spring is sprung

Hi {{ firstname }},

And there we have it.......winter is done and dusted.

September means spring - a time for new growth, new beginnings and new creations (musically speaking, of course).

In August we took Singer Songwriters to Stratford once more - always a fun night - and we had the last of our workshops for the year.

We're already thinking about our workshop programme for 2027. Get in touch through the website if you have any suggestions.

There Is one more Singer Songwriter event to come in August. These are always held the last Friday of the month at New Plymouth's Little Theatre.

So, what's in store for September?

As well as the usual monthly events, September will see our second Band Showcase, highlighting three local acts, at the MostFM Live Lounge.

Artist Spotlight on

Hamish Cameron

Hamish Cameron has been making music since he was 10—starting out in his grandfather’s municipal brass band. It was music that brought Hamish to Ngāmotu, Taranaki around 25 years ago.

As a bass player, Hamish has spent years supporting other people’s musical projects, then Covid opened up time and space for a different kind of musical expression. His recently released album, 'Strange Love' is the result. It has received high commendation by Muzic.NZ. Read the album review here: https://www.muzic.nz/reviews/album-review-strange-love/

Hamish will be the opening act for the Band Showcase on 12 September.

What's On In September

Centre City Sound Bite Session

A monthly showcase of incredible Taranaki talent. Sat, 5 September | 12-1pm | Centre City Food Court

This month, featuring South Taranaki singer-songwriter Pete Norris, whose warm country-folk sound blends acoustic guitar, harmonica, and storytelling shaped by decades of performing across New Zealand and Australia.

A regular at Taranaki Singer Songwriters and Folk at the Fitz, Pete now focuses on performing original music inspired by a lifelong love of folk and country traditions. His relaxed, authentic style makes for the perfect soundtrack to an afternoon in the city.

Whether you're stopping by for a quick break or settling in for a while, Sound Bites is a great chance to discover local talent and enjoy live music.

Taranaki Songwriting Circle

An opportunity for songwriters to grow your songwriting skills, connect with local musicians and get inspired.

Special guest this month is our own Taranaki talent, TALI. As a music mentor, Tali specialises in lyric writing, song and melody structure, and more.

Looking ahead...

WANTED: Musicians to perform at the upcoming Arts in the Park event on Saturday 5 December at King Edwards Park, Hāwera.

A relaxed, busking-style setup is planned, with performers rotating throughout the day to provide live entertainment. The event runs from 10am to 3pm and there are six slots available - 3 in the morning (10:30am -12:30pm) and 3 in the afternoon (12:30 - 2:30pm). As well as there being some remuneration offered, performers are welcome to collect donations from their audience.
