ANNUAL CONFERENCE

SEFI 2026 Annual Conference

The 54th SEFI Annual Conference, held from 7-10 September 2026 at the Czech Technical University in Prague, brought together around 700 participants from more than 40 countries under the theme “Engineering Education for Humanity in a Challenging World.” Participants explored how engineering education can prepare future engineers to address complex global challenges with social, ethical, and sustainable awareness.

Save the date! SEFI 2027 Annual Conference will be hosted by the University of Sheffield between Tuesday 14 Sept - Friday 17 Sept 2027. More details are available on www.sefi2027.eu.

Celebrating excellence in engineering education

Leonardo Da Vinci Medal

Zbyněk Škvor, professor at the Czech Technical University in Prague (CTU), received the Leonardo da Vinci Medal, the highest distinction SEFI can bestow, for his outstanding contribution to engineering education. Read more here.

Francesco Maffioli Award

The SEFI Francesco Maffioli Award recognises excellence and innovation in engineering education. This year, Lynn Van den Broeck and Sofie Craps (KU Leuven) received the award for their outstanding work in translating engineering education research into meaningful and lasting educational impact. SEFI Fellowship

The SEFI Fellowship is awarded to engineering educators who have dedicated over five years of meritorious service to the engineering education community. We are proud to announce this year's SEFI Fellows:

The EJEE Best Paper Award recognises both scholarly excellence and practical relevance in engineering education research. The winning paper from Volume 50, 2025, is entitled "Engineering under oppressive regimes: exploring the role of engineers during apartheid South Africa" from authors Corrinne Shaw and Bruce Kloot of the University of Cape Town.

New Vice-President and Board Members

At the SEFI General Assembly held during the SEFI Annual Conference 2026 in Prague, members elected Euan Lindsay (Aalborg University) as SEFI Vice-President for the 2026-2028 term and welcomed seven Board members for the 2026-2029 mandate: Aida Guerra (Aalborg University), Andrius Jurelionis (Kaunas University of Technology), Diana Martin (University College London,), Luis Manuel Sánchez Ruiz (Universitat Politècnica de València), Erja Sipilä (Tampere University, Finland), Yolande Berbers (KU Leuven) re-elected, and Inês Direito (Universidade Aberta) re-elected. Critical Success Factors for Programmatic Assessment of Communication and Teamwork in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Education

A new paper in SEFI JEEA examines how the aviation industry is modernising training to address engineer shortages. The study, from TU Delft, found that competency-based training and programmatic assessment, combining peer, self, and instructor feedback, can enhance student reflection and performance.
