Feedback like this about our June workshop:

"The online/offline format of this workshop was great - it was beneficial to have time online together to learn and then to pause and reflect to let the ideas ‘brew’ for a little and think about how we can implement these ideas and make changes to suit our learners."

...has convinced us to offer this important PL as an online workshop again in Term 3. The workshop will feature:

  • online presentations

  • small group discussion and collaboration online

  • independent off-line time for resource exploration and application

  • individual coaching to provide customised support.

Generative AI in Languages Education: What Australian Teachers Think and Do

As Generative AI reshapes language teaching worldwide, there is a wide disparity in access to AI tools and high-quality output for many languages beyond English. The purpose of this research is to understand how Languages teachers across Australian states and territories are using, adapting to, and responding to Generative AI — and to reveal disparities in access, uptake and what support teachers need.

The researchers are inviting Languages teachers across Australia (all school levels and all languages, including low‑resourced and community languages) to complete a research survey that will inform professional development, AI literacy, and equitable approaches to AI integration in language education. You can also opt in for a follow up interview if you are interested, with a small gift card provided to support your coffee or classroom needs!

Project lead: Prof. Yvette Slaughter, University of Melbourne. Co-researchers: Dr Renata Aliani, University of Melbourne; Assoc. Prof. Danping Wang, University of Auckland
