June is here, so you know what that means… summertime at Agape! Happy June 1st, everyone!

We had a full and exciting month of May between Mother’s Day celebrations, Night to Remember Prom at Real Life Church, our regular day-to-day programming at Agape, Just Brew It coffee days, and heading into Memorial Day weekend with our clients.

We are also so excited to officially be a year-round program, meaning Agape will continue running throughout the summer!

If you are new to Agape and our coffee shop, everything is donation-based because Just Brew It is part of our vocational and job training program for our clients. They have learned how to navigate and run this business, prepare everything you see, and take pride in creating a place that feels welcoming to our community.

💜 June Highlights at Agape: Maddie’s Joy 💜

This month at Agape, we are excited to feature Maddie’s Joy as our Drink of the Month at Just Brew It! This special drink will highlight fun shades of purple with hints of lavender because purple was our dear Maddie’s favorite color.

Madison Perry and the Perry family are incredibly near and dear to Agape Village as one of our founding families when this program first began. Maddie passed away in October of 2021 and is, without a doubt, in a better place watching over all of us, probably giggling that an entire section of our newsletter this month is about her!

Her birthday was June 8th, and what better way to honor our sweet Maddie than with a special purple drink at Agape this month? If you stop by Just Brew It in June, be sure to try Maddie’s Joy because we promise it will do just that, bring you some joy.

One of our favorite stories about Maddie is that her favorite birthday lunch was always none other than McDonald’s… mostly because she wanted the toy! Every year, our staff at Agape treats themselves to Happy Meals, snaps a picture, and sends it to the Perry family to celebrate our girl.

If you happen to think of Maddie on June 8th and want to stop by McDonald’s for a Happy Meal, let us know! We love sharing those stories with the Perry family because it truly makes their day and is such a beautiful way to honor their daughter.

Madison lived life to the fullest. She loved deeply and had the sweetest laugh. She remains a daily reminder of all life has to offer and how we should approach each day, with love and with joy.

🎙️ The Rare Hour with Christopher Velona

We were so excited to be featured on KHTS Radio with our dear friend and member of the Agape Village family, Christopher Velona.

Christopher hosts a podcast called The Rare Hour and also runs Project Sebastian, a nonprofit organization dedicated to his son Sebastian, who lives with a rare condition called Batten Disease.

Project Sebastian is an incredible nonprofit that brings awareness, support, and community to families navigating the rare disease world. Through his podcast, Christopher openly shares the good, the hard, and everything in between that comes with this journey as Sebastian’s father, while also encouraging communities to come together and make a difference.

The very first episode of The Rare Hour on KHTS featured Agape Village! One of our Co-Program Directors, Jessica Escorza, sat down with Chris to talk about all things Agape, the beautiful community we serve, and so much more.

🌸 Mother’s Day Goodie Bag Success

On May 8th, we handed out about 25 special goodie bags to customers who came to Just Brew It, but these were not just for any customers. They were for the amazing moms who walked through our doors at Agape!

Our clients created goodie bags for their own moms, grandmothers, and loved ones, and the extra bags were gifted to moms visiting our coffee shop that Friday morning.

Inside each bag, lovingly decorated by our clients, was:

- A handmade stationery card and envelope

- A custom Mother’s Day mug designed by our clients

- Sweet treats

- A book called Mom, I Want to Hear Your Story

Everything was topped off with a beautiful flower from our friends at Costco. It was such a simple but meaningful way to remind moms that they are loved, appreciated, and seen for all they do.

👑 Night to Remember Prom at Real Life Church

Part of our staff had the honor of volunteering at Night to Remember Prom hosted by Real Life Church.

The team at Real Life does an incredible job creating a magical evening for the special needs community, truly a night to remember.

Each honored guest is paired with a buddy for the evening. Guests have opportunities to get their hair and makeup done, shoes shined, walk an amazing red carpet with announcers and paparazzi, enjoy a catered dinner from Stonefire Grill, and dance the night away as kings and queens.

It is an evening full of joy, celebration, and unforgettable memories, and one we would never want to miss being part of.

If you have never volunteered before and would like to next year, we highly recommend it. It will leave you with the biggest smile on your face and the warmest feeling in your heart.

Did you know Agape also offers heat press and graphic design services through Agape Designs?

Some of our clients are learning graphic design skills and how to operate heat press machines as part of another branch of our vocational training program.

We fulfill orders for businesses, organizations, and companies while helping our clients gain valuable hands-on job experience and skills.

🌼 May Recap

We had such a great month of May at Agape!

Our clients stayed busy with workouts, volunteer work, art classes with our Art Club, College of the Canyons classes, shirt orders through Agape Designs, and all the fun in-between moments that make our Village so special. We are wrapping up our spring semester courses with COC and are excited to jump into summer courses this coming month!
