At Electric Superbike Twente, we have another very exciting month to share with you all! Let us take you with us through all the updates and progressions of the previous weeks, since we have been busy with the starting phase of our production.

Next to this, we have had multiple opportunities to strengthen the connection with our network and educating young enthusiasts about our bike.

Networking

Pack to the Future

We had the pleasure of being invited to the Pack to the Future event at the Fraunhofer Innovation Platform for Advanced Manufacturing. The day was filled with keynote speakers from many big players in the battery pack market. We got some insights into the current state of industry demand for battery packs, followed by talks about battery pack design and manufacturing. During the lunch break, all the attendants were given a tour of the workshop at Fraunhofer, and we had the opportunity to present our bike and talk to the interested people. For this, we brought Vector ST, to show everybody the innovative battery swap mechanism of the bike. Many thanks to Erfan and the rest of FIP for the nice event!

Addition to our partner network

We are very excited to announce that we have recently signed a new second row partner! Tulip Tech, based in Den Bosch in the Netherlands, specialises in top-tier battery packs and power electronics. By combining efforts, we hope to elevate the battery pack in our bike to the next level. We cannot wait to see the Tulip Tech logo on Nexus-TR!

Running Dinner in Almelo

It has become a tradition for our team to attend the ‘Running Dinner’, which was organised by our partners in Almelo.

At the start of this month, our partners ETC, VDL ETG and Aeronamic invited all the student teams which they partner up with to attend a three-course dinner, where we had the opportunity to talk to engineers in the high-tech industry while enjoying a beverage and a lovely meal. All in all, we had a great time and learned a lot more about the possibilities of our future careers!

Educational events

Techbeach

During the weekend of April 11th and 12th, we headed to TechBeach, an event dedicated to sparking interest in technology among the next generation. It was a great opportunity to share our passion for electric racing with a younger audience.

We brought Mirage EVO along to give children a hands-on experience with a real racing machine.

Instead of just explaining how the bike works, we invited kids to climb aboard and get a taste of what our rider feels on the track. Throughout the day, Mirage EVO was rarely without a rider. Dozens of kids took the chance to pose for photos while sitting on the bike, imagining themselves as the next generation of racers or engineers.

It was an exciting weekend, and we hope seeing the bike in person inspired a few more students to pursue a path in STEM!

Highschool Research Project guidance

As the client for a group of high school students, we visited the Goois Lyceum in Bussum to attend the final examinations. They were doing their "meesterproef" for the Research & Design (O&O) course, which is the big final project for their exams. We went to the school to watch their presentation and give them our feedback and a final grade.

Their project was about finding new ways to cool the electric motor, which is exactly what we have been working on ourselves this year. They also investigated how these changes would affect the bike's center of gravity. It was great to see how they handled the same technical challenges we faced!

Technical update

For the technical project, we are incredibly excited to see all our materials and parts being delivered into our workshop! It started off with a huge truck, delivering our aluminium for the frame and swingarm. This included a six meter tube and a huge sheet of aluminium.

Next to this, we were able to start working on our cooling system, since the tubes arrived shortly after. We also got a special gift from our main sponsor, Aalberts IPS, since they delivered us some of their fittings, which we will use in the development of the system!

Our subframe also reached its first milestone, since we got back from our partner at 3D supplier where we printed the first parts of the mold for our subframe. Since these are quite big prints, we were very happy to be able to print at 3D supplier for this project!

Last week, the busbars for our battery pack also got here, all the way from China. They passed the first few tests, after which we will connect them to the battery cells in the near future.

For our electrical system, our engineers took a deep dive into the shielding of the cables to minimise the electromagnetic inference between our high voltage parts. For this, they worked together with Aeronamic to make sure we are consulted by experienced engineers on this topic.

Furthermore, the last iteration of multiple PCB's are being designed. These will be used within the CAN-network and the BMS.

We are happy to have QSP as our partner!

Keeping our electric superbike performing at its peak requires optimal temperature management. Thanks to QSP, we are equipped with high-quality tubes and clamps for our cooling system.

These vital components ensure that our powertrain stays at the right temperature under the extreme conditions of electric racing, allowing us to push for maximum speed and reliability on the track without overheating.

Recruitment of EST10

A big part of April also was the search for the teammembers of next year, who will continue our journey and help us race Nexus-TR in Spain. For this, we organised multiple interest lunches and drinks, in order to give the enthousiastic students an opportunity to ask their questions and get an idea of their possible life as a member of Electric Superbike Twente.

It was a really nice way to connect with all the students who showed interest, while everybody could enjoy a free lunch, beverage and snack in the sun. We hope to be speaking many of them soon during our interviews!

A glance into the future

MotoStudent Registration

This month, the registration for MotoStudent opened up, which means we are officially committed to our goal of competing in the next MotoStudent edition. With this registration, we also look forward to the timeline of our year and how we contribute to this overarching goal.

With the next MotoStudent edition happening in October 2027, we are preparing a final testday in August, where we have special plans for a collaboration, so stay tuned for this!

Save the date - Motor Reveal

As our final event, we have our Motor Reveal planned where we show all the updates and milestones we achieved this year, together with the finalised motor to show. This is happening at the 3rd of September, so save the date already and keep your eyes open for further details! We hope to see all of you there, to close off our year in a great way!
