Advisor Update

May 2026

Image description

Congratulations to all the SkillsUSA student members who signed letters of intent during Signing Day 2026.  Thank you to the Michigan chapters that held Signing Day events this year to celebrate our future workforce!

SkillsUSA Michigan chapters have been given VIP Early Access - Register before May 17!

Image description

This can be a great year-end activity if you are not attending the National Conference!

Ford Philanthropy is bringing its world-famous Ford Driving Skills for Life program back to Dearborn on June 6-7. Even better, this year’s event is being held at a very special, highly exclusive location: The Ford Dearborn Development Center. The DDC is Ford’s premier vehicle testing and engineering hub located on the historic site of the original Ford Airport. It features specialized test tracks and advanced laboratories where our engineers fine-tune the performance, handling, and durability of new vehicles before they reach the market.

Because they anticipate extremely high demand for this event, they want to ensure that their philanthropic partners (like SkillsUSA Michigan) and the communities they serve have first access to this special opportunity.

To do this, they are offering SkillsUSA Michigan a one-week "head start" to register before they open the event to Ford employees and the general public!

Event Details:

  • Dates: June 6-7 (two sessions each day to choose from)

  • Location: Ford Dearborn Development Center

  • Who: Permitted or recently-licensed teen drivers

  • Cost: 100% free (with advanced registration)

  • Note: This event will sell out! These private registration links expire on May 17.

  • What: During the clinic, teens will get behind the wheel with professional instructors to learn life-saving skills like hazard recognition, vehicle handling, and skid control. Since 2003, Ford Philanthropy has taken Ford Driving Skills For Life to cities around the country teaching these important advanced skills.

Our Exclusive Registration Window: The links below is for local Ford Philanthropy partners only and will expire on May 17. On May 18, Ford will open any remaining spots to the general public, at which time they expect the limited slots to be taken very quickly. There are about 150 slots available each day, and Ford would love nothing more than to see them filled by the youth you serve!

Register for the time that best fits your needs:

Other Updates

Win $5,000 for a project you actually care about!

If you've been sitting on an idea to fix something broken in the world, this is your shot to do something about it.

Prequel and Limitless Education just launched the Young Changemakers Fund -- a $100,000 fund for high school students in grades 8-11 who want to build something that matters.

The grand prize is $5,000 in project funding plus a full-ride scholarship to Prequel's one-year program. The program includes mentorship, weekly workshops in business entrepreneurship and building with AI, and access to a college advisor -- everything you'd need to build and scale your project for real. Full-ride scholarships are also available for low-income students who want to join the program without the competition.

And it doesn't stop there. After completing the program, scholarship recipients are eligible to pitch for an additional $15,000 in project funding.

Here's how you enter: record a 60-second video answering two questions. What problem do you want to solve, and how would you use $5K to grow your project? That's it. No essays. No transcripts.

It's free to apply. If cost has ever been a barrier to this kind of opportunity, it isn't here.

Apply here: https://changemakers.joinprequel.com/

Deadline: May 15th

The AMTEC Institute Community of Practice sessions

The AMTEC Institute for Industry 4.0 Innovation (AI3) is funded by a National Science Foundation grant (DUE ATE 2350012) and is providing train-the-trainer sessions that focus on Industry 4.0 concepts and incorporate them into the classroom. A program agenda is available on their website.

There is no cost for registration. They can provide travel assistance and stipends to instructors who meet program requirements. They have multiple sessions scheduled for 2026 (you only need to choose one): May 19-20, June 16-17, and October 6-7. After attending the training, instructors will also gain access to virtual monthly community-of-practice sessions that provide ongoing resources and feature industry partners, educational peers, and best-practice tips.

As the year winds down, have a wonderful summer break, and thank you for all you do to provide meaningful SkillsUSA experiences to your students.  See you next year!

From November through December, chapter members collected items from both the House Wish List and Santa’s Room Wish List, filling boxes with donations to brighten the holidays for families staying near Maynard Children’s Hospital in Greenville.
