We at CPLF trust this important announcement finds you well.
Navacord who provides Contractor General Commercial Liability Insurance is pleased to announce enhancements to their Residential Care Providers Insurance Program which is designed to streamline the process for Contractors to acquire your General Commercial Liability Insurance which has been mandated by the Alberta Government when supporting vulnerable Albertans.
Key updates are as follows:
1. New Application Launch – Effective May 15
A new online application will go live on May 15 for all new Contractors. Moving forward, this will be the only application link to be used (Residential Care Providers Program) which is noted in the attached flyer.
2. Common Expiry Date – May 15
Going forward, all policies will transition to a shared common expiry date of May 15. For any new Contractors onboarded throughout the year, coverage will be effective from the date of application/binding through to May 15, with premiums calculated on a prorated basis.
Effective July 1, 2026, all renewals will be aligned with this common expiry date. Existing Contractors will be required to reapply as their policies come due, at which time they will be transitioned to the May 15 expiry. Premiums will be prorated accordingly. Please refer to the revised procedure outlined below.
3. Payment & Pricing Changes
Premiums will now be fully earned at the time of purchase and must be paid upon application submission. Annual pricing will fall between $500–$650, and the exact cost will be clearly displayed before finalizing, —no surprises at checkout!
4. Renewal Process Changes – Effective July 1, 2026
Beginning July 1, 2026, all renewals must be completed through the new system:
5. Certificate Submission & Renewal Tracking
Contractors are still required to provide their certificate of insurance to your agency after applying or renewing. However, with the standardized May 15 expiry date, agencies will be better positioned to monitor compliance. Our system will also send multiple automated renewal reminders to contractors ahead of expiry.
We at CPLF thank you for your patience and attention to this matter and wishing you a great summer!
