The Brain Is Not “Failing” in Menopause
One of the more concerning trends in recent years has been the rise of dramatic messaging around menopause and brain health—particularly on social media. Claims that the brain is “degenerating” or “eating itself” without hormone therapy are not supported by credible evidence. What we do know is that the brain undergoes metabolic and hormonal shifts during menopause. But these changes reflect adaptation, not collapse.
Understanding that distinction matters. Because fear-based messaging can push women toward decisions that aren’t grounded in evidence—or away from options that might genuinely help them. |

Understanding Food Allergies |
|
Dr. Queen approaches patient care with a simple but often overlooked question: What role is food playing in how you feel every day? For some people, the answer is obvious—certain foods trigger immediate and unmistakable reactions. But for many others, the connection between food and symptoms is far less clear.
Fatigue, brain fog, digestive discomfort, skin issues, and even mood changes can all be tied to what we eat, sometimes in ways that develop gradually over time. Understanding the difference between food allergies, intolerances, and sensitivities is an important first step in uncovering those connections—and in building a path toward better health. |

| | Understanding Hormone Changes and Finding Your Balance
For many women, a hysterectomy marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another—often with more questions than answers. At Energize Health & Hormones, Dr. Queen works closely with women navigating these transitions, helping them make sense of the physical and emotional changes that can follow.
A hysterectomy, the surgical removal of the uterus, can be performed in different ways. Some procedures remove just the uterus, while others include the cervix, ovaries, and even surrounding tissues depending on the reason for surgery. What matters most in terms of how you feel afterward is whether the ovaries are removed. If they are, the body shifts almost overnight into menopause. If they’re not, things can still change—just more gradually and sometimes less predictably. |

| | For many women, the transition into menopause brings a wave of changes that can feel both physical and unpredictable—shifts in weight, sleep, mood, and metabolism. It’s also a time when concerns about long-term health, including diabetes, tend to move front and center.
Even though menopause may not directly cause diabetes, it would be a mistake to dismiss its impact. The hormonal shifts of perimenopause and menopause—particularly the gradual decline in estrogen—play a meaningful role in how the body regulates blood sugar. Estrogen has a generally protective, glucose-lowering effect, while progesterone can have the opposite influence. As these hormones fluctuate and eventually decline, many women experience increased insulin resistance. This helps explain why blood sugar levels can become more erratic during this time, even in women who have never had issues before. |
