| | | Feature blog: Vision and manifestation |
I use the word manifestation to mean the ability to bring a vision or idea to fruition. My success at achieving this with several ambitious projects continues to surprise me. There’s no simple formula to share, but this is my best attempt to explain what I do. It’s important to add that I’ve also launched some initiatives which have gone nowhere, despite all my best efforts! Black Mountains College (BMC) is an exciting new project, which only started teaching in 2020. Whilst a lot of educational institutions are large, formal, and focussed on content which is abstract and past-based, this one is the opposite. The vision which Chief Executive Ben Rawlence and his team are manifesting is a catalytic community which helps people face the realities of climate change and learn the skills they will need in an uncertain future. BMC is not a conventional institution: it is a community of change-makers committed to regenerative practices, learning to live and work in ways that help both nature and human societies flourish. Courses combine traditional craft and practical skills with forward-looking approaches to ecology, justice and resilience. Read more |

Wouldn't it be great to grow more food near to where it's needed, whilst creating opportunities for young growers, and regenerating the land. At Sarn, in mid-Wales, this vision is becoming reality. Our Food Trust has worked with Powys County Council and a range of partners, from training providers to farmer networks, to turn 36 acres of council-owned farmland into three new smallholdings for young growers. The first farmers have already moved in, bringing energy, ideas and commitment. This project shows how small-scale farming can deliver much more than vegetables, bringing new livelihoods, new networks, and new hope. Read more |
