| Whatever else happens, remember these lyrics from community organizer Alexandra Blakely: "You do not carry this all alone. No you do not carry this all alone. This is way too big for you to carry this all alone, so you do not carry this all alone." Sung at a recent vigil for Alex Pretti, held by Mission Nurses United, the song reminds us of something essential: we still have each other. You don’t have to carry any single piece of this alone.
Mourn. Rage. Be in community. Then, together, figure out what comes next, and don’t do that alone either. Gather with your immediate neighbors. Make a plan. Show up to trainings. Learn what you can do. Take a moment to breathe. Remember that we have each other. And then, act. |
